We visited the ' A Familia Restaurant ' this evening after a local had suggested it to us....We should have known better when , at around 6:00pm, the place was completely empty....still, we went on the local's advice ,and my wife and Portuguese Mom sat down for dinner. Mom ordered a small bottle of wine, and I, a common large beer of 40ml, which happened to be approx. 2/3rds of the size of a 40ml everywhere else we've eaten here in the Island, despite the fact that the glass said it was....but it clearly wasn't, as they usually come in the size of a large stein...no big deal. We ordered our meals,...being of Portuguese decent, and loving the cuisine in general, Mom and I both ordered the grilled Cod w/ salad and potato's....after a reasonable time, the meal arrived. Mom and I looked at each other in dismay, as the meal was served to us on a three portioned kiddie plate, w/ a tiny potato, yes A tiny potato cut in half, and a salad that we each finished w/two fork-fills, three for Mom, two spoonfuls of bean salad a thin portion of Cod about an inch an a half wide, and 61/2 inches long, and not one meaty chunk to be had, and a pile of bones to accent the disappointment.....I've eaten this meal elsewhere, a multitude of times, and know when I/we have been ripped off. The taste was satisfactory, but a Kilo of salt Cod costs approx. eight and a half Euro's, and Mom says she can get at least eight very healthy portions from a Kilo, so we were very disappointed and definitely felt cheated from our culinary experience at the 'A Familia ' Restaurant'...The waitress only showed her face again, when she showed up w/the Dessert Menu, which we quickly brushed off....This after we were at Tony's Restaurant in ' Furnas ' the night before, after visiting the very special 'Terra Nostra ' Park, and we're overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of the ' Cusido a Portuguesa' dishes that were very cheap in price by comparison, served w/a smile, at Tony's Restaurant, just as most of the Restaurants we've eaten at here on the Island..... All I can say to ' A Familia Restaurant', is to realize that people come from far and wide to visit this magnificent Island, so don't send people home w/a bad taste in their mouths.
