“A home from home, if that's what you want”
Reviewed 28 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We've rented many holiday homes throughout Europe and have a second home ourselves so I feel qualified to comment that this is Melanie and Ian's second home in Sicily and it feels just as if you've borrowed a friend's house to stay in with all the advantages and disadvantages that brings. So there's a lot of 'stuff' not normally found in a rental property.
We had a few problems with the plumbing and also had to keep turning off the pressure system as we found the noise intrusive especially at night.
Positives - car parking if you've got one [we hadn't], outside space on roof terrace, 10 minute walk into centre of town, comfy bed and sofa.
Negatives - mismatched bed linen and stained towels, no 'cooker' -it's a 4 ring gas hob so meat or fish had to be fried not grilled, the toilet in a cupboard off the kitchen area, big old TV that doesn't work.

How easy was it to book the property? How easy was key pickup/access to the property?
Overall condition of the property Bedding & mattresses
Kitchen & utensils Bathroom cleanliness
Other facilities & amenities Service
Liked best: Somewhere to sit outside i.e. roof terrace
Liked least: In my opinion, not run as a commercial let.

Thanks for the review and your comments.
The plumbing works well enough when the apartment is in use more regularly though your comments are grounded. We are awaiting a new water meter which has to be installed by a plummer approved by the local water board.
The TV was meant to have been removed and we have updated the procedures with our local custodians that ensure fresh towels are available (more to the point the used ones are removed).

“Fantastico”
Reviewed 2 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We (Mum, Dad and 8 y.o. son) stayed 8 nights at the end of October. The weather was still good and we were able to make good use of the upstairs patio area. Our son slept in the master bedroom (downstairs) so that we had full use of the main living area in the evenings. The sofa bed was comfortable and the arrangement worked well for all of us. We mostly ate at the house during the evenings and found the cooking facilities met all our needs. The location meant that we had access (within 5 mins walk) to a great fruit and veg market truck, a baker, 3 butchers, a superb fishmongers, 2 local supermarkets and a wonderful salumeria at the bottom of the hill. The views out of the windows were enchanting and local church bells just added to the whole experience. We can't wait to go back.

“casa alveston provides excellent base for exploring southern Sicily”
Reviewed 9 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

this house is spacious clean with a funky vibe, an excellent base for exploring, only 6 minutes stroll to the bars cafes etc of Modica basso. The roof terrace is good and was well used for breakfast, lunch and early evening drinks! Our stay was enhanced by Francesca who has the keys and is full of local knowledge . A gem!
Apart from help and advice from Francesca we used the Lonely Planet guide to Sicily. Absolutely invaluable.
Modica was a great base to visit everything on the Montabalno trail and much more. Highlights were Ragusa alba and Noto.
September /October seem a good time to visit but the car rental man said December was a good time too. Remember drink driving laws are strict so you will need to be based in a town so you can walk to bars and restaurants. We had a fabulous time!!!

“Lovely house and so convenient.”
Reviewed 14 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Spent 6 nights in this property and it was so relaxing. A 10 minute stroll into the centre of Modica and always somewhere to park the car outside the house.. A very nice property with everything you could want and ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area.

“Excellent place as a home base or just chilling”
Reviewed 14 November 2013 for a stay in April 2013

Whether chilling and enjoying the warmth and vista or using it as a home base for travelling to the coast or incredible cultural and architectural wonders this house is ideal.

You get more than you pay for and what you pay is ridiculously low, but with travelling from Stanstead to nearby Comiso airport it makes long weekends a real treat.
