Owner description: Har Ki Pauri Haridwar : Haridwar is one of the most ancient pilgrimage centers in India that has been reverence from times immemorial. Hari means (Lord/God) and Dwar means Gateway. Hence Haridwar means Gateway to the Lord. According to the India mythology, it is one of the four places where drops of elixir, Amrita accidentally spilled over from the pitcher or Kumbha, in which it was being carried away by the celestial bird Garuda, the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. These four spots have today become places where the Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 12 years in succession - Nasik, Ujjain, Haridwar and Allahabad. Millions of devotees and tourist congregate from all over the world to celebrate this celestial event and perform ritualistic bathing on the banks of the river Ganges.

The Holiest of all places. Its at the Ganga Bank in Haridwar, surrounded by several, small, ancient temples. I took a dip in the Holy Ganga here and then did aarti and other rituals at the nearest temple. The experience is always divine and soul purifying. But, keep away from "local advisers" and "guides", they are all commission agents of Pandits / temples you visit. This disturbs your faith and peace. Hence just avoid and ignore all such people. The daily "Ganga Aarti" in the evening is a MUST SEE ritual, which will stay in your mind forever.

The evenings at Har Ki Pauri is very good and holy environment with Ganga Arthi. If you are in Haridwar make sure you visit this in the evening. And preferably turn in early to sit near the river else because of heavy crowd you might not be able to see clearly from back.

It was quite crowded becoz of long weekend but still worth to visit once. Pls avoid sellers who are selling things on the name of rituals.

I visit Haridwar atleast once a year and this place means a lot for me in terms of affection, its importance in hindi mythology. This is the main Ghat for bath near Brahmakund, where Amrit has fallen. The area is well managed by the Ganga Sabha Trust. Water is too cold and flow is fast but with one dip one can stand in the waters for hours taking holy dips, soulful feeling and watching the flow of water. Water is very neat and clean. People collect holy water from this Ghat. Nowadays police have put lot of restrictions preventing all types of vehicles to reach out the Har ki Pauri area and one has to walk a little reach the area.
