I really can't fathom some of the reviews that have been left regarding this resort. On a recent trip to Australia my partner and myself decided to take a 4 day trip over to Fiji. The flight was a lot longer than we thought but it was worth every mile on the plane. We arrived at night and was shown to a beautifully decorated room (we did pay the extra for an upgrade) We were told it was one of the recently refurbished rooms. When we woke in the morning we opened the shutters and found ourselves just one step away from the softest sand my feet have ever experienced. Our room was right on the beach and I will never forget the nightly sunsets. The staff and people of Fiji are some of the friendliest I have ever met. My partner still talks about the steak that we had in one of the on site restaurants. The copious infinity pools around the hotel were just stunning. My only complaint is that I wished that we had stayed for longer than 4 days !

Room Tip: Pay the extra and upgrade to a beachfront room

If you don’t go to the Sheraton expecting Sheraton service you will have a great holiday. We had a great time but it was also frustrating at times:

- We had a Starwood Privilege Room Upgrade voucher but were told when we checked in that there were no Oceanfront Studios available. However when I went online after to check it stated that some were available.
- Prior to arrival I contacted the Sheraton to ensure that something special would be organized for our anniversary and for a portacot to be in our room. When we arrived neither were there. Our infant (1 yr old) didn’t sleep on the plane and was in need of a nap. I needed to ring reception 3 times to ask for the portacot since arriving. It turned up 45 minutes after we checked in our room. When the portacot arrived it had no mattress in it. Just a sheet on the bottom. We had to use the cushions off the lounge to make a mattress in the portacot for our baby to sleep on. Hence the limited amount of sleep we got during our holiday. I also rang to remind them about our anniversary and was told something would be sent up but nothing ever was.
- The remote control didn’t work. Had to ring twice for someone to fix this.
- The room clock didn’t work.
- The room light didn’t work.
- Our roaming was not activated on our mobiles so we had to use Sheraton’s phones. Just be aware that their rate is $7.25p/m.
- Our room was not cleaned by 4pm so we had to phone twice for it to be serviced.
- Twice we arrived at the pool to be told there was no towels so we had to walk back to our room (which is a fair walk in 30 degree heat) to use our shower towels from our room.
- Both times we dined at Feast & Chime we were charged for items we did not have. When we pointed this out on the bill we were made to feel like it was our mistake.
- I had been looking forward to game of volleyball. 3 times it was on the daily activities but never happened. On the 3rd time I thought I’d ask why not. When I asked the man he didn’t even know it was supposed to be on and then asked to play touch footy instead.

Now that I've had my grumble it really is a lovely area and as everybody says Fiji is an excellent holiday with children. We didn't mind not having the picturesque beach as the choice of all the pools was more than enough. The Fijians are amazing with children and always go out of their way to say hello and make them smile. If you go you will have a great holiday but just expect to have some hiccups during your stay as you get used to "Fiji Time".

After reading poor reviews on service here, I took a leap and booked an ocean front twin, hoping for a first floor unit. We were lucky to get just that, room 1525, fully renovated with tile floors, sparkly granite twin under mount sinks, large glass enclosed shower with rain shower head. A mini-'fridge was quite helpful for keeping drinks cold, and though the annoying clock radio goes off each time the power goes off, we never used it. The room was kept impeccably clean each day by wonderfully sweet women who engaged you in conversation if they were working around you, or if you were on the deck. Our door opened to a grassy area with small bures with lounge chairs to relax in, take a nap, or read. The deck itself was very private by design, you couldn't see the neighbors and they couldn't see you unless you went out onto the grass to chat with them, which we tended to do about the cocktail hour. No beach in front of us, just rocks and ever so gentle laps of water on the rocks. Around the corner, toward the main hotel, was the infinity pool and restaurants, then the children's play area. The swimming beach is sectioned off to prevent people stepping and damaging the natural coral reef. It's a sandy bottom and most adults can walk all the way out except during high tide. The water temperature is about 84 degrees, so it was like sitting around a natural hot tub, chatting with the other guests, staying there for hours. No sharks, too warm! We ate at Flying Fish, the Breakfast Buffet daily, twice at the Dinner Buffet, and once appetizers at Chime (kind of a letdown). Both Flying Fish and Chime have bed-type lounge chairs to lay down and get really comfortable. Those at Flying Fish Bar are the best place to sit and wait for the sunset to occur with a lively cocktail or Vanu draft in your hand.
We saw several weddings at the chapel just to our left when outside. There was a 10 person scaled down event and a large 100 party setting, each looked beautiful and well served by the hotel. We booked several tours (which I will review separately) to Plantation Island on the Coral Cat, Robinson Crusoe Island day trip, Nadi coast jet boat ride with village tour, Hot Air Ballooning with Adrenaline Sports, and the Meke at CocoPalms at the Westin.
We had read the air conditioners were loud, so we took ear plugs for night. They are absolutely necessary to dry the dampness overnight, or nothing would ever dry. It's tropical here people, so if you're coming just bring ear plugs and have a really wonderful sleep.
Ever single hotel employee we came in contact with offered an enthusiastic "bula" from the reception desk, ladies cleaning the rooms, landscapers, to security. The breakfast buffet crew joined together to sing, choir like, for birthdays, anniversaries, and on our last day at dinner they sang the Farewell Song, and I nearly cried. We felt like we had bonded with these people and they were part of our group, and we theirs.
Along the way we learned Fiji Time, and am now still trying to hold it near to my heart.

Read some good and bad reviews before coming, was keeping my mind open when I arrived.

First the bad stuff:
1. Organised 2 cots in the room, confirmed again and again even at checking-in at 3pm, arrived in the room, only 1 cot was there. Rang and waited for 2 hours and still no show. 2nd Cot finally arrived after dinner in a new room (see later), but it's broken, and was told they can't replace it until the next day. At the end they gave us a foldaway bed instead.
2. TV wasn't working in the room, called and waited for 2 hours and finally someone showed up to try fix it, he couldn't fix it and just walked away and left and didn't explain anything. 15min later front counter called and said they couldn't fix the tv and need to change to another room instead
3. No slippers in the room, had to call and wait for an hour for that to arrive; Ceiling paint was peeling off in the room probably due to moisture; bathtub plug was missing; no blankets for the kids and no spare in the waredrobe

Now the good things:
1. The staff were all nice and friendly
2. The hotel's very kids friendly, free food and drinks, and the pool was perfect
3. Nice walk on the beach to all the nearby hotels
4. We stayed at room 1270, that's the crap room with the broken tv but it's very closed to kids club; moved to 1370 it's quiet and close to flying fish and the adult pool
5. View to the beach and ocean from the bed was awesome
