Owner description: A bioluminescent lagoon, mangroves, coral reefs, dry forests, sandy and rocky beaches set between headlands—visit all these ecosystems in one place, the Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve, in Fajardo. You’ll find one of our most frequented visitor centers here, and it’s only steps away from the best resorts in the area. You can take traditional, night and thematic tours from here—on bike, kayak or trolley—always in the company of a nature specialist who will show you everything about the ecosystems, landscapes and wildlife of the reserve, including the breathtaking view of the northeast tip of Puerto Rico from the top of the Fajardo Lighthouse. Multiple tours available by booking online. Spaces are limited, please reserve in advance online or by phone.

We went on the afternoon tour, the 2 oclock one is in English and it was very interesting. You get to play with a bag of luminous water. They take you on the tram and you visit the beach, the lagoon and the Lighthouse. We enjoyed it so much we went on the evening tour as well. This was very imformative and they gave a full lecture on how the lagoon works, before you went and played with the water, no swiming. The guide was very good and managed to find us a tiny frog, it was well worth the money. You have to book in advance as places are limited and the trips run in Spanish and English.

The bird sightseeing tours are great. We recommend it a few times a year, as migratory birds change throughout the seasons.

Well worth the trip. The hike through the mangroves is informative, and the view from the lighthouse is worth the trip.

This is a big natural reserve that used to be a palm tree plantation. The Fideicomiso de Conservacion does an excellent job offering tours that do not harm the environment and are unexpensive. They take you on a trolly up to the mountain where the Fajardo Light house stands. You will learn about Puerto Rico's History, flora and fauna. The view from the top of the Light house is simply amazing. You can even go to the Bio luminescent room inside he light house and learn more about the micro organisms that make the water glow in the dark. It is totally worth it!

The tours here are well organized and informative; our guide was excellent: friendly, lively, charming, and knowledgeable. You get to see a variety of different types of terrain, along with great views from the lighthouse. Another reviewer complained about the walking, but really, there's very little walking; I would have liked to do much more!

You do have to reserve your tour in advance, and they don't run every day, so check the scheduled online. They're a good value, though, and your money is going to a worthwhile cause.

Oh, and one small point: We arrived after hanging out on the nearby beach for a while, and I assumed I'd be able to use the restroom in the visitors center when we arrived, but they were out of order; I had to wait until we reached the lighthouse a couple hours later. So plan accordingly.
