Paradise in a thatch roofed bungalow

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Aug 2019
After a five day stay in Granada, Nicaragua, five of us traveled to Big Corn Island located about 50 miles east of the Caribbean side of Nicaragua. Costena Airlines flies three round trips daily from Managua to Big Corn with a 10 minute stop in Bluefields. Upon arrival at the airport, the hotel sends a taxi or two to bring you to the office for a quick check in. The cabs throughout the island are inexpensive and of the Kia Rio variety. Paraiso Beach Hotel has well maintained grounds and bungalows surrounded by native flora. A restaurant serving a variety complimentary breakfast choices (American, Canadian, European, Typical Nicaraguan, and Pancakes). Lunch and Dinner menus are also available throughout the day. The rooms and hotel grounds are less than one block from a lovely sand beach. The sand is clean, and the water is crystal clear and gently laps up against the shore. Bicycles, Vespa type scooters and motorcycles are available for rent at the office. All of the staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. At the time I booked the rooms, I chose to have the management book our flights from Managua for a small service charge. This was very helpful. Another plus throughout the Corn Islands: English, Spanish and a Creole dialect are all spoken with English the most prominent.

So here’s our family’s well travelled and aged- like a fine wine -review 😀: We like humble but very comfortable abodes and people, we like clean crisp sheets and bathrooms, we like accessibility to the culture of the place and the land, we want to feel the place we are visiting!. Friendly staff, good food, honest and accessible rates. A great chess game! Wouldn’t stay anywhere else, if u are like us. Gracias, Mike and Sheily, and staff. We will be back. You are awesome! Miss my morning run with Nike!

The room was quite lovely with good A/C. Because there were very few guests (on the whole Island) the restaurant didn’t have many of the foods, particularly fruits, which was kind af a bummer.

The Beach in front of the hotel was okay to Lie on, although the wind blew a lot of loose sand around.

Thank you for your review. And yeah, in June it was difficult for us to maintain everything on stock. Transport and logistics were an issue for the island. But things are back to normal luckily :-)
We hope you will come back again soon!

We stayed here for 2 nights. Check in was really smooth and pleasant. We arrived early in the day and our room was ready for us. we had one of the front huts near restaurant but it was never loud. room was nice nothing fancy but your on an island in central america. i was okay with that. the resort itself is nice but so many little things are missing to make it great. like they have a few bali beds to relax under but I can only imagine the last time they were ever cleaned or washed. under one of the huts where bali beds are I counted 3-4 small hornet nests. their Adirondack chairs around the property I don't think have been wiped in a very long time.i saw one young gentleman doing the raking and lawn maintenance during our stay he worked really hard but there should be at least 2 or 3 of them for a property of this size.empty drink glasses left around after many hours.
maybe due to still not many tourists are back they limit number of staff but it will also make those little misses more evident to those that do visit.
it's the little details that make the difference between 4 or 5 stars and most of the other places we stayed catered to those details.
the staff are all super nice and very hard working and will take care of all your requests no matter what.
we spoke with the owners and they were really pleasant to deal with. very approachable people.
some of the best staff we met during our trip.
if you walk about 200 yards to the left once across the street you will find a nice portion of the beach to swim in.
        on a fun note
don't be surprised if you see a couple of cows or a horse wander across the property. next door they have a couple cows and a horse and they seem to get loose once in a while.

as my review for their restaurant you won't be disappointed coming here but you won't be wowed either.
I would consider coming back just for their staff!

Thanks for your detailed review! I think its very helpful for future guests. We are indeed not a 5 star resort but we aim to be 3 star with 5 star service and that seems to sit well with almost all guests :-)
I'm glad you enjoyed the restaurant also. We try to always have fresh ingredients and surprising dished like Thai Curries.
We hope to welcome you back soon!

I went with my family and we stayed for four nights. Vany, the charming French manager is very kind and accommodating. Our stay was made much better thanks to her invaluable help. She's very friendly and ready to assist you with anything you need. The hotel itself is very comfortable but the food at the restaurant is a little overpriced. Plus, the beach in front of the hotel is too rocky to go for a swim. Other than that, I have no complaints.
