The bus journey from Lubang Prabang to Phonsavan was long and tiring so a comfy bed and hot shower were a welcomed relief at Nice Guest House. Plenty of places to eat around the area but if you decided to eat at those Laotian readily cooked fast food place then you better ask the price of the individual item first before placing the order. Language is the main issue here. The main market is just across the road and down the side street for another 100m. Another place for cheap Laotian food.
The Northern Bus station is miles away and I paid 30,000 kip for a shared tuk-tuk on my arrival. So I asked the hotel staff for the quote of the bus back to Luang Prabang.
The official tariff is 95,000 kips and the guy only wanted 120,000 including transfer. So it was actually cheaper to buy the ticket through the agent than DIY. The bus only holds 25 seats so buying the ticket on the day of your travel might not be a good idea.
Every tourist coming to Phonsavan for the same reason: Plain of Jars. Ask around the various travel agents in town and compare the price. You might find out that shared tour is not available everyday and this happened to me. So unless you can afford a private tour, allow yourself an extra day at least.More
