Cozy cabins overlook the valley. About a 20-30 minute walk to downtown. The view makes the walk worth it. Staff is exceptionally kind and helpful. Great place to stay, good value. Loved having a fire set in the fireplace in my room each evening.

We recommend this lodge to anyone visiting the Plaines of Jar. Rustic, tired but the owner is so friendly and welcoming and it is so typically Laos. Great evening meal and unbelievable large menu. Quite away out of town but the town does not offer anything in the evening and tuck tucks are readily available. We have no hesitation recommending this accommodation , a great experience .
Auberge 's position is not good as too far out of town, views OK, food extremely ordinary, dining room/reception grotty, cabins very basic, beds hard, linen old and worn, rubbish outside not cleared since who knows when! Not a nice place to stay!
Spent 2 nights here. First let me say the accommodation is in a wonderful location. But that is the only positive I have to say. The place needs urgent renovations. The water temperature of the shower was either hot or cold. The towels were thin and the tap on the sink was very lose - a handyman would have fixed it in 10 minutes. The floor boards creaked and the furniture rattled. The room lighting was poor and no torches were provided for the walk from the room to the restaurant/bar. The door key was hard to use, I got locked out 3 times (had to walk back to reception for help) and also got locked in once. Thank heavens the neighbours heard my calls for help. Dinner was absolutely awful, the fish I ordered was burnt to a crisp, and the cost for the dried out fish was exorbitant. Breakfast was just adequate - the first morning the coffee was cold. The place is uphill from a karaoke bar, and the awful singing did not stop until 11 pm. The owner needs to spend some money on this place, back home the place would be condemned
In a pine wood, up a long track, little individual cabins and lovely grounds. All the potential for being charming. However the room was tired, chairs with stuffing coming out, the grounds had litter, dinner was expensive (and, as it is so out of town you had to eat there) and not very good eg chicken with gristle. Breakfast was not good..how can you make scrambled egg tasteless and dried up and juice over sugared and tasting artificial? The most annoying thing was that the place is very noisy...there is what sounds like a disco down the road. Bizarre, really. At least it finished at a reasonable time so didn't keep us up all night. So, overall, a place that could have been wonderful and wasn't. It needs some competition!
This place is not luxury, no spa, no five stars. But it is quaint, food was good and the staff was most friendly. They even make fire for you in the bungalow and the surrounding forest makes a nice setting. The road to Phonsavan is rough, but it 's well worth the ride.
