We didnt park at lembert dome to do the hike. We walked around the front face of the dome just for the fun of it but of course we didnt get very far. We were so happy to meet a park ranger to gave us the back entrance to the dome. We drove a little back and parked at the entrance to dog lake. We walked behind from the forest that saved us a mile walk. Its a very steep climb. The dome has incredible views. You have to be very careful. There are sheer drops. Even though the granite looks essy to climb some portions are smooth. Wear shoes with good grips. Carry water and an energy bar. There are areas where we were completely out of breath. We stopped got a gulp of air and water and carried on. It could just be the elevation. My son is 11 and he was able to complete the hike. It was a huge accomplishment for us and we enjoyed it.

You can see Lembert Dome from pretty much everywhere in Tuolumne Meadows. It is not an easy hike - the rating of moderate is accurate - but it's not exactly difficult either. Plus the views are amazing.

Hike to the Lembert dome is not really hard. We met some families with children and they made it to the top. From the top of course you can see gorgeous scenic view. Have a lot of water during the summer time.

This hike is on the short side, but involves some steep uphill pitches. It's rated "moderate," which seems about right. You don't have to go to the very top dome to get wonderful views. We did it in early October and met no one until we were on the way down.

This rock dome is one of the main features of Tuolumne meadows and looks like an easy climb up its flanks from a distance. Looks are deceiving but it is still a unique formation. There are trails on both sides though. There are quite a few similar domes along Tioga Pass Road created by the glaciers of days gone by. Lots of exfoliation of the rock layers are easily seen.
