Owner description: Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

“"A True Slice of Paradise"”
Reviewed 7 March 2012

This is one of the places that residents play! Watch the childrens' soccer games; see the groups meeting under the "Big" Banyan tree. Walk through to explore the neighborhood beyond. Great restaurants are "just over there." Find a tree with huge exposed roots that seems to be there "just for YOU to sit on."

“A nice oasis from the hubbub of Waikiki”
Reviewed 3 March 2012

The day we happened upon Kapiolani Park, there was a free performance of the Royal Hawaiian Band in the band shell which was a real treat. There was also an annual art show called Artfest. The park is just south of all the hotels of Waikiki and within easy walking distance of the Saturday morning farmer's market at the community college east of the park.

“Get away from the crowds”

Beautiful, clean park with nice beach. Much quieter than Waikiki- we found it much more enjoyable.
