We just returned from Oahu. We stayed 8 nights at The Kahala Hotel and Resort. Our family, from the moment we arrived at their large beautiful lobby was greeted by everyone with a warm smile and by name on many occassions. The rooms (Dolphin Lanai) were very large and clean with everything that was needed, including a large complimemtary tote bag, great for use at the pool. Our rooms were about 15 feet from the Dolphin Lagoon providing us a great opportunity to see and hear the dolphins swim and play day and night.

The Buffet breakfast was beyond words, if you couldn't find something you liked to eat, I would be quuite suprised. Joy, the Food and Beverage Administrative Assistant greeted all guests with her warm smile and friendly words every day. She is a lovely person and always willing to share a recipe with you for your favorite morning dish. Several mornings, we were served by Corrine another friendly and pleasant individual, always remembering my skim milk for by coffee.

The winds were a little stronger than we anticipated but we were at the pool and beach every day, again the staff was always pleasant, friendly and helpful with towels, drinks and a refreshing afternoon ice pop.

Jade was also very helpful in making the dolphin trainer for a day program a memorable one for our granddaughter. The Dolphin quest was an amazing experience for our family as we watched our granddaughter interact with the dolphins. The Dolphin Quest team are a remarkable group of people dedicated to their profession and in sharing their enthusiam and knowledge with all the quests that they worked with in the program or those just stopping at the lagoons to watch the dolphins.

We have mentioned some of the staff at the resort with whom we had the pleasure to meet, but our comments would apply to the entire staff as we had nothing but a pleasant experience with all.

I can't say enough about this resort, you must see it and feel it in person.

We dined at the following restaurants:

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel-Luau- a beautiful history lesson to see, hear and taste the culture of the Island
Alan Wong's- the Richard Hal's tomato salad a must
Chef Morimoto-everything we had was fantastic
Orchid's- food was delightful and the view from the restaurant was wonderful
House without a key-food was great and sunset view and music was enjoyable
Plumeria at the Kahala-all lunches were good, don't miss the Kahala hamburger
Hoku's at the Kahala- food was excellent, great service and wonderful views
The Veranda Tea at the Kahala was just lovely
Wolfgang-WHAT A STEAK!!!! That says it all

Oh yes
Teddy's Bigger Burgers- Waikiki- a fun burger place and also very good

It was a pleasure having you with us, and I was delighted to see how much you enjoyed our services and guest facilities, in particular, the popular Dolphin Quest interaction program. My staff and I look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon. Aloha and best regards.

A long story but was not happy with our rooms . Two double beds in one of our rooms and BOTH have mattresses with deep indentions on the inside sides. Literally you are on a downhill slide. Impossible for two people to sleep in. I complained to housekeeping to no avail. After my unhappy battle regarding the status of my rooms, I knew it was futile to pursue with management. You won't be treated as if you matter to them as a customer so don't bother complaining.

Inconsistent room cleaning. Some days before noon other days not until 2. One night turn down service was at 9:30 another 5:30.

I am checking out tomorrow and will be sure to tell the front desk staff but it won't matter to anyone.

Maybe it's time for me to find another hotel for my annual business trip to Oahu.

This is a fabulous hotel is you want to be in Honolulu but don't want to be in the middle of Waikiki. There is a very nice rather quiet beach at the hotel with water safe for swimming. There is a clean & pretty pool with hot tubs.

There is a very large pond on the grounds with dolphins swimming around. You can even pay to swim with the dolphins. My kids did the program where they got in the water with the dolphins and it was safe and the dolphins appeared to be very happy and healthy.

There are several good restaurants on site, one restaurant is best for couples with the other is great for couples or families or large groups. Buffets are great, especially if you like sea food.

Hotel is a few miles from Waikiki, so if you want to spend most of your time there you might want to stay there. But this hotel is in the perfect location if you want to explore the island but still be near great destinations. There are bikes for loan or a beach to walk on and the location is relaxing and laid-back.

If you want to be close to Waikiki but avoid its crowds and noise then the Kahala is the resort for you. Free frequent shuttles to Wikiki but I recommend renting a car for your stay since there is so much to see on Ohau. Parking is $24 day but you can save that much by eating some meals elsewhere, do sign up for the breakfast buffet which is one of the best I've come across. The $15 day wireless (slow) charge is a bad and the toilet paper cold be softer but those are very minor complaints. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
