Wonderful day walking up to Diamond Head and getting the trolley bus back into town. Steps were very scary - didn't realise there was an alternative route to the top!

A fun but moderate walk up to see Waikiki shore from high up. You must be appropriately dressed to walk this route. Sneakers are a must.

This was a great walk - I was a bit nervous beforehand as I'm not very fit, but it was fine (tiring but fine). There are so many signs that warn you about how strenuous it is - but if I can do it then it wasn't that bad! There are also plenty of spots along the way to rest if you need (and take photos). We got to the top in around 30 minutes or so. We made the mistake of going in the middle of the day on a weekend so the trail got pretty busy and there were a lot of people at the top trying to get a photo of the view so we didn't spend much time up there. Go earlier in the morning.
There are a lot of stairs towards the 2nd half of the hike and uneven dirt paths for the first half, so if you have any difficulties with mobility keep that in mind. Make sure you wear runners/sneakers and bring a bottle of water.
There is one point on the walk where you come to a dead end and either turn right and go up the stairs or turn left. Go left - it's more scenic. Someone else gave me this advice beforehand and I'm passing it on!
It's $1 if you enter the crater on foot and $5 if you drive. We got an uber there (which worked well cause the parking lot was full). We ended up walking back to our hotel in Waikiki because we were enjoying the exercise but there's a taxi line if you need.

We hiked it in the late afternoon, around 3 pm. Took us 1.5 hours roundtrip. Some steps near the top. Great views at the top for picture taking.

It’s not a hike, it’s a walk but very enjoyable and a must do when in Honolulu. Views are great, coconuts are great and it is an excellent morning activity as we went at 9 and were back at our hotel for 12 noon.
