Newport & Narragansett Bay Railroad - Dinner Train
Reviewed 24 April 2017

Great food served piping hot. Choice of three entrees, Attentive waitstaff, easy listening Duo- The Playboys of Newport. Train Trip on the line from Portsmouth by the shore. Sunset overlooking the Mount Hope bridge...
If you are even remotely Romantic , take the P-train to nowhere ...then capture on film the reactions....

Never again! We took our Grandaughters and their parents on what we hoped would be a fun and memorable Christmas experience! It was memorable alright but for all the wrong reasons! When we arrived on time our train was leaving the so-called station! We spoke to the person at the ticket booth! We were told they were running late to wait in the waiting car! We all waited for an hour and a half in a cold train with screaming children- no food or drinks and no further information! We were finally told to board along with the next group of paying customers who boarded before we did! They put us on an old smelly car they brought in the last minute! THEY read The Night Before Christmas- gave us watery hot chocolate and a plain cookie! Stop for a 2 minute visit with Santa to be given a cheesy necklace with a bell from China- in a boat storage unit!! Wow!! And it only cost us $300! No apologies or refund!! Terrible- Don't waste your money or time like we did! Never Again! Merry Christmas!

The evening was a fun filled adventure with a delicious dinner and wonderfully accommodating staff. Everyone including the Owner, Cassandra, waitstaff and acting troup from Marley Bridges Theatre Company was outstanding. We understood this to be their first evening run for the Christmas Carol play and it was fantastic! My husband was even allowed to gain admittance due to a no shiw. What a fabulous way to kick off the holiday season! We found a new holiday tradition!!

While I have read the others review of the lunch train I will have to disagree. It appears they have changed since many others have traveled on the trip. The rail car is a nicely restored vintage dining car with comfortable seating. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating.

As to the views from the train; you travel through residential, industrial areas, a golf course and a navy base with Narragansett bay as the back drop. While the view isn't as spectacular as train ride on side of a mountain the view of the water makes up for it.

The food was amazing they definitely have a chef that knows how to cook. I had the turkey stuffing and cranberry sandwich which included a cup of soup or a salad and desert. I asked for my sandwich to be done differently and asked for gravy on the side and they were very accommodating. My husband had the open turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes.

It appears they have made great improvements based off of the previous reviews and I applaud the owners.

The lunch was a leisurely time spent enjoying the views and the food. I would certainly recommend it.

What a great experience! New owner Eric Moffet has hit the mark! Newly renovated dining car .. The Grand Bellevue Bistro is a winner. We had a three course gourmet meal...prepared fresh by an Executive Chef. We both had the beef tenderloin with roasted potatoes and wild rice, fresh bruschetta and salad, bread...and tarimisu for dessert! Bonus was the music...husband wife duo ZanRicky made our night. You gotta check them out for a romantic evening or special excursion. Trainsri.com Great staff too. Thank you!
