“Huge room, useless internet, nice staff, below avg restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2012

We did a Groupon thing and got 4 nights for the price of 2 in a "Kiva suite" which was on the back side of the hotel and easily the biggest room I have ever seen in a hotel. It had a small "kitchen" which was a fridge, sink and microwave. The fireplace was a Kiva style (Beehive basically) and the staff comes to light it for you, and we just had enough wood to get through a surprisingly cold night. The bed was a sleep number bed so that was cool in that we could get as comfortable as we wanted in it. The room was clean and as I said huge and for $75 a night on the deal we got more than worth it. So that's why 4 stars

The hotel has a shuttle that will take you into town but it only runs every hour and quits at 9pm, so we didn't use it. The wireless internet is a joke, it seems to work ok in the main lodge but it's virtually non-existent in the room we were in. The hotel desk told us that rooms in the "400's" always seem to have a problem with slow (really how about it doesn't work at all) internet service, they are "working on it".

We were tired the night we got in and decided to just eat in the restaurant there, maybe we should have guessed as to the quality of the food when it was 7pm and there were only 3 other parties there, but we chalked that up to being a Thursday night off season.

We should have gone with our gut, the food was marginal, at best, the best I can say is the chips were good. The sopiapillas that were supposed to be included were being "made fresh" according to our waitress and never came, no one offered to discount the bill either. The red sauce that was with the chips was their "special sauce" and one I never want to try again. I east Mexican and New Mexican all the time, I have no idea what that sauce was but it was super hot and that was all no flavor to it.

The staff was ok, but given that our waitress had as most 2 tables she could have checked on us more than once. I had a beef & potato burrito, which was pretty tasteless, it was just some beef and some potato stuffed in a tortilla, no sauces inside, really bland.

My companion had the Blue Corn Enchilada plate and her reaction was much the same as mine "eh" I could have had this meal as a frozen entry that I microwaved and had more flavor.

All in all the "value" that we got in the room and the staff at the front desk (Devin) is the reason for the 4 stars, the internet and restaurant would make it 2. I can't say enough about the front desk staff, helpful, friendly, understanding, that was an all around great experience.

I doubt we would stay here again, there were plenty of hotels with better locations (as in right in town) that were yes more expensive but I would try then when we come back. This place is pet and kid friendly we know, we had a little yappy dog next door and kids running around up above for 2 nights.

Room Tip: Stay away from the 400's if you want to have any internet access!

Had a Girl's Reunion with my cousin, booked for three nights. I had upgraded to what I thought was a double- junior suite..with a patio overlooking the city. Apparently, the addition of microwave and 'fridge makes room a Jr. Suite...not separate sitting areas. Maria, at front desk could tell I was not a happy camper and called after we were settle in to make other arrangements for us. We thanked her but declined, not wanting to move at that point. Wish that had been initially offered. Overall, The Lodge is a bit tired and in need of some TLC. That said, the beds were quite comfortable with a variety of pillows offered on each. I am not sure what the general policy is at the restaurant...but I was carded when I ordered a drink.(I am 75 years old). We ate there two nights and enjoyed our food. The food was New Mexican and not Spanish when we were there. We took advantage of the hourly shuttle service to the downtown area and found it convenient since we did not have to find a parking place downtown. The cleaning staff remembered our request for more regular coffee and supplied it after we asked once. We were disappointed we were unable to use the hot tub...always busy..so popular! Our last night there, we had to go ask for hand towels and wash cloths at the front desk. We learned that they were two people short-handed that day and everyone was pitching in to get the laundry done. The maintenance man was in charge of the front desk while the front desk clerk was away taking care of a problem. We never felt unsafe at anytime...even walking back and forth to the main building.. and know it is a place to which we could definitely return.

Room Tip: Since the pool, was not open during our stay, it was quiet in that area. However, the rooms with the...

The room was spacious but not very clean. The front desk staff exhibited poor customer service skills when we interacted with them at the desk and deplorable customer service when we had to call the hotel for assistance after we left. I would not recommend this hotel to women traveling alone as there is no apparent consideration given to security.

Room Tip: Make sure they don't put you across from a conference room or you'll contend with the people...

We were so delighted to spend our anniversary at The Lodge! The staff were warm and welcoming, the environment was colorful, with amazing Southwest and Native decor. The grounds were lovely and inviting. The views of the city were superb from atop the hill. The room was spacious, like an apartment, with all the amenities we could ever dream of! We loved the super comfy king size bed with six pillows and luscious comforter. The vigas and rod iron canopy with heavy drapes gives the feeling of sleeping in a castle! The furniture was very comfortable. We had the suite which was larger than some apartments I rented in NYC! Also Starbucks coffee! We will certainly return again, plus the price is very affordable for Santa Fe. A special thank you to Maria and to Devon!

Room Tip: We loved the king suite! The refrigerator really came in handy since we packed a gourmet picnic lunc...
