This is my third visit here and the best ever. Asked for a room with a balcony which wasn't available at the time, but were able to get a room until it was ready, since we were running late and had to change clothes for a dinner. Nothing was too much or seemed to be a problem.

Historic Hotel set next to the Alamo. The hotel seems to have been constructed/expanded two or three times since the original build in 1859. I have stayed in the original building and found the rooms very small. The rooms seem to be larger in the newer buildings. There are also balconies in the newer buildings. The restaurant is very nice and breakfasts are well presented-the wait staff is professional. The Menter bar is worth stopping in for a drink as Teddy Roosevelt recruited his rough riders at this here. The Menger is literally next door to the Alamo. The Riverwalk is easily accessed thru the mall next door. Morton’s Steakhouse is less than 50 meters from the Menger’s valet entrance. There is also a Dave and Busters plus a Yardhouse at the mall. They may both front on the Riverwalk. Overall I like the convenience to the Riverwalk and Alamo the Menger offers. It is without doubt a great place to stay during your visit to San Antonio.

Room Tip: Some rooms seem updated compared to others. Some have balconies. The are also a few very large suites-with living rooms and kitchens.

This was our first time staying at the Menger. There are several other very nice Hotels in close proximity to the Alamo but the Menger is the most convenient to the Riverwalk as well as the Alamo. This would go on forever if I went into the historical significance of the hotel so I will leave that to the reader to do their own googling. Everything was very clean and the staff was very nice. The courtyard is very lovely and the lobby is a throwback to a time when people would strive to bring style to an otherwise difficult time.
I'm giving this a four out of five because there seemed to be a little confusion over times and operations of the dining room. However the food was great. It is a luxury hotel so the pricing on the menu may be a turn off to some.
The only thing I did not try was the pool and bar. I will be checking that out next time as we will be staying here again in the coming month.

My family & I checked into the Menger Hotel on a Saturday for a one-night stay. Justin at the check-in desk was phenomenal. He gave us suggestions for places to have dinner, provided us with a map of the area and pointed out places to visit. Our room was comfortable, those beds are FABULOUS! My daughter & her boyfriend loved the windows & "balcony". The hotel is definitely close to the River Walk, and we enjoyed a drink in the bar prior to retiring for the night. Definitely recommend!

Stayed at this hotel for a US Navy reunion. The hotel is beautiful but not very "user friendly". There have been renovations but some glaring omissions. In our room, 5133, there are no towel racks, no safe, on refrigerator, no ice bucket. We booked a suite but after being shown 2 with views of walls of adjoining buildings, we down graded to a room with a balcony and nice skyline and pool view. One of the suites we were offered had the bathroom and bedroom on opposite ends, you had to go through the living room to get to the bathroom from the bedroom. The hotel appears to have had many additions over the years and the layout and floor plan is confusing at best and there appears to be no "short cuts" to get around the property.
We enjoyed our stay and the reunion activities at the hotel. The hotel personnel were nice and friendly. The location is great and within easy walking distance of many attractions, restaurants and shopping. Not sure I would stay here again though because of the layout.
