They advertise great views, not so much of these either. Better personally and in advance chose your room or you'll be looking at a bush. Or parked cars. Surly desk clerk says they NEVER change rooms. You can do much better. If it's a few dollars more to go somewhere else, pay it. Lots of lovely choices in Estes Park.

(They never clean up the dog stuff in the kids playground either...ick.)

Room Tip: higher rooms facing their yard offers a better chance for a view

Good afternoon,

I apologize that your stay at Discovery Lodge was not up to your expectations. We try to provide customers with the best possible service we can. As for your room view, I'm certain our front desk agents would do anything they could to switch your room for you but sometimes we are very busy or even sold out which would prevent us from being able to meet your request for a different room. I am surprised to hear that the dog droppings were not picked up as our groundskeeper constantly check the property throughout the day.

Thank you for your feedback,

Discovery Lodge

Great location but would not stay there again. We stayed in what they call a suite since they did not have any rooms available. We were in the downstairs cabin and room upstairs was occupied with someone that could not sleep but heard walking almost all night. The porch light also went off and not sure why and could not see outside. We were awaken by what sounded like mice between the walls. Did not sleep at all and was pricey to stay but left at 6am the next morning and were completely exhausted from lack of sleep.

We stayed here on our first night in Estes Park. Great for families with small children. Nice swing set, fed the ducks i. the pond, had a campfire, watched the elk that were hanging out at the gold course, amd mou tain hot tubbing can't be beat! Worked for us just great!

Let me start with the pros:
* walking distance to the beautiful estes center (especially the route along the river)
* price is okay
* large room
* great view on the back

But now the cons:
* We had room 101 on the ground floor with zero wifi (be aware when booking)
* Tiny claustrofobic bathroom which was creepy
* No breakfast
* No airco
* You could hear people walking in the lobby above (noisy)

Next time I'll pay a few bucks more for another motel.

Good afternoon,

I am sorry your expectations were not met at Discovery Lodge. We are switching to a new internet provider very soon. As for no breakfast and air conditioning, we do not advertise either.

Best regards,

Discovery Lodge

Most (if not all?) of the lodge buildings have 2 floors. Unfortunately, we were given a room on the first floor. The facility is probably pretty old and sound travels easily downward. The people staying upstairs were walking around and even dragging chairs etc across the room at all kinds of odd hours, as late as 11 pm (once woke me up at 2 am) and as early as 5 am. Since we came to the National Park to hike, good rest is important, so this was not ideal. But since we are only staying for 3 nights and we came during the busiest time (August), the lodge was pretty full, so we didn’t bother trying to change our room either. Just that next time we come to visit Rocky Mountain NP, we probably won’t stay here.
The room has a heater but no A/C; there is a box fan in each room so you could open the windows and doors to let the room cool down a bit, and even in August the outside temperature is cool enough so that after you air out the room you can sleep OK at night. Beddings etc are pretty old, I don’t want to guess how clean they are. The outdoor hot tub they advertised for is the portable kind that you can see at any home furnishing store, seating 8 people would be a squeeze, but the water has such a heavy chlorine smell and so lukewarm that we went for only 1 night out of the 3 we stayed. Soaking our tired feet in the bathtub inside our lodge room is more preferable.
On the plus side, the room is quite big. The front desk has pretty strong coffee in the morning, and a microwave you could use during office hours. There’s a frig in the lodge room. The wi-fi works fine.

Room Tip: if you are a light sleeper, ask for a top floor room if available.
