A little dated, but VERY clean with a friendly staff. Comfortable beds, large TV with a hot tub on site. We there during the elk migration - woke up to a herd of elk passing through the back yard. We'll definitely be a repeat customer!!

Beautiful town! The lodge is within walking distance to the Visitor's Center and the town square of Estes Park. The cabin rooms are very nice and quaintly decorated. The beds were comfy. Hot water immediately for showers. So welcome since it was 23 deg. in the morning. Enjoyed seeing lots of elk wandering through the golf course next to the lodge. So cool to hear the males bugling in the early morning. The balcony rooms offer a beautiful view. If you are a coffee drinker, complimentary coffee is available in the office. However, the office does not open until 8:00 am. If you need it before then, you have to hop in your car and go fetch it. There is an outside hot tub, but it gets shut down at 9:00 pm. Overall this was a great place to stay. Just wish they had coffee makers in the rooms.

This was a very pleasant stay for a friend and me. The check-in was smooth and our room was very large and clean. It's right up the road from all the stores and restaurants (be warned that in off season they close early-ish). Overall a decent place to get a night's rest.

Room Tip: There are 2 floors so you may want to ask for a ground floor if you don't want to use the stairs.

We stayed 3 nights at Discovery Lodge with our large dog. Note to Pet Owners ~ Limited pet rooms and strict pet policies so call ahead to make sure this lodging will work for you. We drove through Rocky Mountain National Park to get to this lodge from Clifton, Colorado. Driving through the steep, windy roads of this 12,000 foot elevation park was an adventure which we did not want to experience again. Thank goodness we were in a car and not an RV. (To be fair to the National Park, if you do not have a fear of heights or steep drop offs and are a hiker, this is the park for you.) We were very happy to reach our destination in Este Park. Our room was located on the 1st floor beneath the office. We had a King bed with a view of the pond, near the lawn area. There was a fenced off golf course on the other side of the pond where the Elk gathered. Since it was mating season, we saw 50 or more animals interacting in this area in a single day. Great photo opportunities of this majestic animal. You "might" also be greeted by an Elk (like we were) in the morning, so be careful when you step outside your door so you don't spook them. The lodge was also in walking distance to town with plenty of shops and restaurants to explore. The lodge did not offer any type of breakfast so we had to eat elsewhere. Unfortunately, there we not too many dog friendly restaurants in town. Claire's on the Park (located near City Hall) has outdoor seating and is pet friendly. We ate there twice during our stay. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. A few things that would have made our stay even better would be: 1) A room way from the office since it was a bit noisy with people/dogs moving around above us. 2) Updated room key system - The current metal key system with the room number on the tag, is not safe, especially if the key should get lost. If found, anyone can get into your room. The modern electronic card system would be more efficient and secure for all guests. We put a chair in front of the door at night because we felt vulnerable to possible intruders. 3) Our preference would have been to stay on the 2nd floor but were told that the pet friendly rooms were on the 1st level (even though the lodge manager's dogs were above us). Yes, there are some improvements that could be made to this property. But, we would consider staying here again if we return to this area.

Great place to stay! Very reasonable; Beautiful location with pond on property – Right along the golf course where the Elk gather; Conveniently close to downtown Estes, short distance to Rocky Mtn Natl Park. The staff: Brian, Linda, Taylor, and Vee added highlight to the enjoyment of our stay: Personable, friendly and accommodating - went the extra mile to make our stay delightful.
Rooms: Clean and pleasant, nothing fancy, just nice place to stay; Comfortable beds with assortment of pillows. Ask about amenities you want when booking. Some rooms have microwaves, others not. Some have small refrigerator, larger rooms have larger frig and microwave. No hairdryers or coffee makers in the rooms. Coffee/tea/cocoa is served in the lobby: Really good coffee! worth the trip to the lobby. While getting coffee, you meet the nicest guests, some regulars that return every year. The best part: Discovery Lodge accepts pet with additional pet fee $15/nite, with nice grounds for a short walk. This will always be our first choice when staying in Estes Park.

Room Tip: Not many suites, book ahead if you want the larger room.
