My husband and I drove Highways 7, 72, and 119 from Estes Park to Golden. Such a stunning drive! Amazing views of the Rocky Mountains, and astonishing rock formations varying from red rocks to massive granite boulders around every turn. The road is mostly well-maintained, but there are hairpin turns and some tight places. Well worth the few extra minutes to drive it. And you drive through some intriguing places like Nederland and Blackhawk and Central City!

Enjoy the drive but pay attention to all the side roads, old mining sites, hidden little gems in the mountains. Stop in some of the little towns and explore the shops and restaurants. Keep your eyes open for wildlife!! Enjoy the drive, so many things to see.

Nice drive back to Denver along Hwy 7. Beautiful sights, lots of places to stop and hike or take pictures.

The Aspen trees are magnificent in Autumn. Plenty of pull-outs and hiking too. We like going all the way from Estes park to Idaho Springs. If you're a geocacher, there's lots of stops for this too.

This is a wonderful half or full day drive from Denver to Rocky Mountain National Park. The drive is easy and very scenic, with lots of places to stop and take pictures. It passes through the historic old mining towns of Central City and Black Hawk (Google them for more information). There's a great side trip to the Moffat Tunnel west of Rollinsville, but check locally for road conditions. Sometimes a regular car will suffice; other times the trip requires 4-wheel drive. (Google the Moffate route, as well.) See the link below for a map of the Scenic Byway. Take your time--this is about the journey, not the destination.
