Scalo features many classic North Italian dishes, but many with a touch of originality or creativity. Mussels in garlic and wine sauce is a mainstay. But at Scalo, a bit of cheese makes it stand out above the norm. The mussels themselves were plump and tasty
I had the short ribs as my main course. The sauce, the preparation and the presentation were again excellent. The meat was extremely tender but not the highest quality meat. My wife had the salmon special of the day, and it was top quality.
The budino custard rounded out a very satisfying meal.
The wine selection is good.
We were in a little bit of a hurry for what should be a relaxing location for a dinner. We told our server, Ricardo S., and he accommodated us perfectly.

Our friends, who recently moved to Albuquerque, recommended this restaurant for my husband's birthday dinner when we were visiting them. It proved to be a great choice. I had one of the specials for the evening - Grilled Swordfish. It was the fresh catch and was a thick piece of fish. Usually, a swordfish steak that thick is never fully cooked in the middle but this piece was. My friend also had the same dish and it too was cooked perfectly. My husband had the short ribs from the regular menu which he said were delicious. We started with the Fried Calamari as an appetizer and dinner salads. Both were very good. The restaurant had a nice wine list and we ordered a medium priced bottle of Chianti ($40) for the table. We left there very pleased with the service and quality of the food and its cooking. I would recommend this place for a romantic couples dinner.

This was our first visit to Scalo's. First of all street parking on Central and in the small mall the restaurant is located in is scarce. However, there is a very large free parking lot in the back of the mall a short walk from the front door.
The interior is very upscale with a loft wine bar that is apparently open only for dinner. Our server was very knowledgeable. We ordered the Linguine Bianci (a seafood medley) and the Linguine con Cozze (mussels and pancetta). Bread is served while you wait for you entrée.
The linguine con Cozze entrée had the best flavored mussels I ever tasted. Both dishes were very filling especially for a lunch. We reviewed the dinner menu and it exactly matched (except for sandwiches) the lunch menu in choices and pricing.

We got there early, before a concert. We ordered a special (fish) and the Veal for the male of the couple. Both ended up being spectacular. After some minor screw-ups that were corrected promptly. This has been our favourite for 20 years.

Veal scallopine to die for, great drinks and wine. Helpful and thoughtful staff. Highly recommend. If driving, parking is easy in the lot or on a side street.
