“Wonderful cabin in the wilderness”

We had a wonderful time in this pleasant little cabin next to the Pecos river. The stairs to the only bedroom are steep and the only bathroom is upstairs, so those with mobility issues should try a different location. However, if you're half-way healthy you should find climbing the stairs a slight bump in an otherwise wonderful and peaceful stay.
The cabin is literally feet from the paved road but the road noise is quiet and since the road is above the cabin (basically up a 15-20 foot cliff) the lights of cars won't be a disturbance. Of course its the Pecos Wilderness and not the center of a busy city so there won't be very many traveling late at night anyway.
We loved the location since we were far enough away from town to be out of cellular service (there is a land-line phone) but close enough to pick up groceries or some ice cream. The cabin is about one hundred yards away from the Pecos river where we had access to the island attached to the property. It was nice to be surrounded by green and the sound of the water flowing leisurely past as we walked on the path that went from one side of the island to the other. We also enjoyed the benches and chairs in various locations on the island and closer to the cabin so we could take advantage of privacy or the cool breeze so common in the New Mexico shade.

We enjoyed our time a the Pecos River Cabin and will recommend it to anyone.

Liked best: We liked the solitude of a nice little cabin right on the river
Liked least: That I won't be able to visit the cabin whenever I want.

“Perfect getaway, even with 3 small kids.”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

The owner could not have made the experience any easier... online booking, thorough directions, advice for having a great stay.

The cabin was smaller than I imagined, but that just made it very cozy. Our kids are 7, 5, and 2, so they slept cross-wise on the double futon downstairs, and we had the bed upstairs. Oh my gosh, that is the most comfortable bed!!!! And, there is a view of the stars while lying in bed. What a wonderful surprise!

The sound of the river while we slept was amazing.... close enough to visit many times a day, but with a fence keeping the little ones safe from the water when we weren't looking to go in. Horseshoes, hammock, games, puzzles, books. So much to do (and not do.... relaxing!) There is a National Park right across the road, in walking distance. We had a great hike and played in the water there too.

The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, etc. Do stop in Santa Fe (or another big place) for groceries.... Pecos and the general stores in the smaller towns have very little to offer if you want real meals. What I "liked least" would be that the wifi was unreliable, but perhaps that was a blessing! My husband would say the bathtub (there's no shower, but the tub has a sprayer).... I loved the tub!

I doubt we'll be able to stay here again.... with our kids getting bigger, the cabin will be too small to sleep us much longer.... but for a couple, or 1-2 older kids who don't mind sharing a double futon, it is great. Not much "extra" room for an inflatable mattress given the layout, but perhaps we can pitch a tent in the yard?

You will love this hideaway. Getting back to basics is a great thing!

“It's all in what you make it!”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

First of all, the cabin is beautiful inside and out. As other reviews had mentioned shortcomings of the cabin as in steep stairs, low water pressure and a low ceiling above the bathtub (no standup shower), we have to tell you that we had no problem and it's all in what you make it! The sights and
sounds of nature are amazing: river flowing close by, wind in the tree tops, hummingbirds and cardinals singing, hawks crying, gorgeous mountain foliage and flowers! We caught trout directly across the road at Windy Bridge Park, rode trail horses at the Circle S Stables and ate some excellent New Mexican cuisine at Frankie's in Pecos. This vacation spot is not for the close-minded. Thank you Margo & Vicky for our exceptional vacation experience.
