This was our first trip to National Harbor. The Wyndham is a nice place to stay. We were in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit through a Wyndham timeshare. The beds were comfortable and it was very clean. There was a kitchenette with full sized appliances. The only negative I would comment on was the internet service. They allow only 4 devices to use the free wireless internet and it was very slow service. You could upgrade to a faster speed, I believe, but we didn't do that. On neat thing is, they had an Ipad in the unit for use. We had our own devices so we didn't use it, but I had not seen that before.
You park your vehicle in a garage across the street and pay $16 per day with come and go privileges. There is no maid service daily and no washer/dryer in the unit, so the towels furnished for our stay were minimal; however, I'm sure we could have traded them in for fresh ones if necessary. But we made do. It was fine, since we stayed only 5 days. They do have laundry facilities on the property, just not in the individual units.
National Harbor is very nice. Nice shops and places to eat. It reminds me a lot of the Landing in Branson. Very nice. Very walkable. We felt safe there. Everything is new. One of the bellhops told me that the area is 6 years old.
The Wyndham is a great alternative to staying in DC. You will have to board a free shuttle bus (it says Chariots for Hire on the side) and take the 15 minute ride into Alexandria, Virginia. There you purchase your tickets for the metro (subway), if you choose to do this instead of drive or take a taxi into DC. You just need to be aware of the bus schedule and the metro schedule. There is no shuttle back from the Alexandria metro station after 8pm.
My wife and I spent our 27th anniversary touring Washington, DC. Our base of operations was the Wyndham Resort at National Harbor in MD. The timeshare/hotel was brand new. National Harbor had many fun shops and good restaurants. There was a free shuttle to Alexandria where we boarded the Metro into DC. We also ate at Theisman's in Old Town. The stay was very enjoyable. Wyndham gave us great maps and directions for everything and there was a parking garage right across the street. I highly recommend staying here!
