Yeah, I know it's in an old historic building in an alley in downtown Macon Ga and that is part of the charm. But, there are other places in that area that have been updated inside a bit while retaining the charm of an old building. I don't think the carpet has been changed in 30 years. There is paint peeling off the walls. The decorations look like bargains from Smiley's flea market. This is not a cheap place to eat. The owners need to spend about $20k and at least make it somewhat presentable, Macon Ga is in dire need of nice places to eat. The food, service and drinks at the Downtown Grill are well done. The facility - not so much.

We have made many trips to the Downtown Grill for special events like birthdays, anniverseries, or just a special date night. The food is always excellent, and there are many selections to choose from. There are nightly menu and drink specials. I have never been disappointed by a meal or the service that we have received. The food is fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend the Downtown Grill

The location did not bother us but the smokers in the bar did. Fortunately, the food made up for it. We began with a cocktail at the bar while we waited for our table. The wait was brief and the drink was good. Once seated, we split an appetizer and we split a caesar salad. Note, order your own caesar. They are tiny but excellent! We ordered lamb and the filet. Superb! The spinach, mushrooms and the mash were perfect accompaniments to our entrees.

Service was poor and inattentive, food lacked seasoning, the decor is dated and dinghy and they are overpriced. Other than that it was a good meal

Was here with a client and some coworkers. I ordered the center cut ribeye - while cooked properly it had absolutely no seasoning or flavor whatsoever. The green beans were okay (at least they had a little flavor) and the broccoli was fair.

The two items that were good at our table that I tried were the Ahi Tuna appetizer (surprisingly very good) and the desserts. The cocktails were also pretty good.

The decor, as mentioned - dark, dinghy, old. Not appealing whatsoever. Carpet on the floors, an oriental rug that sticks out like a sore thumb, plus heavy smoking in the bar that you have to walk through to get anywhere. Kinda nasty

Our server while polite and nice was extremely slow, forgot to bring us bread, never refilled our water - just plain lousy. Did not add to the atmosphere

Finally the price - for 5 of us, one bottle of wine, a couple of drinks, tip and so on was $350. In a nice steakhouse in a major metro I would gladly pay that much. But this was not worth half that amount.

Bottom line - major disappointment. Don't waste your money if you are looking for someplace nice
