With hand painted signs and a $5 entry fee per vehicle to drive down a private road, I wasn't really sure what to expect with this (as I didn't research it beforehand). It is certainly worth checking out! The cliffs are very cool to explore and a nice backdrop for photos. I'd say worth the stop.

This is a good little outing to see unique clay formations. $5 per car and we enjoyed a stretch break. Best to wear closed toed shoes.

The cliffs are spectacular and are only a relatively short drive from Omarama. It is signposted from the main road and is well worth the trip. Part of the route is along a gravel road but that is a fairly straight, is of a reasonable width and has a smooth surface.

A nominal entrance fee is charged via an honesty box and is considered justifiable as the gravel road is mostly on private land and any maintenance would be the owners' responsibility.

I get easily excited about lots of different things. Yet this place was a complete waste of time. The clifs are bland and done in 10 seconds. Unsealed road over private land. Cost of 5$ .... 80 cars/ day ... 130’000$/year for a 1km unseald rode to a underwhelming sight: well promoted indeed!!

While heading to Omarama on the Alps to Ocean cycle ride my friend decided to bike the extra 6 kms in & out to see the Clay Cliffs as advertised on road.
After cycling in he was expected to pay, which he had not planned for.
Cyclists don't usually carry coinage in their bike gear.
So he biked the 6 kms out, very disappointed. I believe the Cliffs are spectacular and well worth the $5 entry fee but just a heads up to cyclists there is a charge.
