On a very busy road the Honey Cafe is a unique take on a road cafe. There is a fully working bee colony visible to patrons. Bees have become a threatened resource so it is good to see they are cared for. There is a full range of bee products, honeys etc including Manuka.
The cafe is good with a range of food to suit all travellers. Good point: The muffins actually have fruit in them. Not so good: All coffee serving cafes should include double shots, this is one where you have to ask.

Stopped on our way north out of Auckland heading for the Bay of Islands. Lovely staff and good selection of cakes. The kids enjoyed the honey milkshakes. Good coffee too! We took a quick look round the shop and when we saw the bees at work and all the things to see we wish we had more time to stay longer. Do at least stop in and if you can stay and learn about the bees and the honey

The menu was reasonable but my selection was a bit dry and unappetising on the plate. My friend who was going gluten free and sugar free had few options so she ordered fries, the plate of these was HUGE.

The Honey centre is a favourite of ours. We have bought the dog here for years. The honey is outstanding with many varieties. A tasting table is popular. Lots of lotions and potions to try and buy. A wall of live bees to watch. The cafe is adjoined with lovely rustic tables. Haven't eaten at cafe for a long time, so can't comment on that.
