My wife and I just spent an unforgettable 5 days / 4 nights at La Selva and I don't know how to begin to describe it. I'll start with their mission: By partnering with various Kichwa communities, they've been able to protect and conserve a privately-owned portion of the most biodiverse region on the planet. They've helped turned local hunters into conservationists, naturally replenished the surrounding habitat, and created new jobs and revenue streams. By staying at La Selva, this is what you're supporting.

Next, the staff. Rodrigo was our main guide and Enrique was #2. They were incredible. Both honed their skills in finding wildlife and understanding it when they were trained to hunt as young boys. Now they take that knowledge, share it with tourists, and show other young Kichwa men that they can earn a living the same way. We spent a great deal of time with Rodrigo on our trip, and he is one of the most genuine, hard working, intelligent, and respected men I've ever met.

It's not just the guides. Bernardo the bartender, Juan the server, Matt the Scottish Ecuadorian yoga teacher. On and on. The people are so welcoming and proud - it puts La Selva over the top.

Last but obviously not least - the place. La Selva is across the Napo RIver from Yasuni National Park, which I was concerned about. It turned out to be a non-factor. La Selva sits on its own lagoon away the Napo, which is nice because there's a good amount of traffic on the big river and it seems to be quieter on the lagoon. La Selva has its own ecosystem, which the guides know so well. Despite being in the largest rainforest on Earth, La Selva and the surrounding jungle feel like you're in an up and coming neighborhood in the cool part of town.

What am I missing? The rooms are clean with minimal bugs and very spacious and luxurious. The food is honestly like fine dining. I mean 3 course lunches every day! The bar is great. I can't say enough. Just go. :)

I don't think there's a better way of experiencing the Amazon rainforest than what we had here. Apart from actually roughing it in the jungle but that's for a different league altogether. And even so, the amount of wildlife (birds, monkeys, sloths, amphibians, ...) you get to experience in a mere 5 days is hard to beat considering that you're every need is catered to (and this includes wifi). Great rooms, meals, cocktails, topped off by a very capable and friendly staff. The guides are great and go out of their way to ensure you get to see as much as possible. The canoe ride at night on the lake is an incredible experience. In the observation tower you have miles of canopy at your feet.
Yes, you need to get up at 5 AM to see stuff. But if you hurry (or get up a little earlier) you can enjoy the sunset and the morning mists on the lake with a cup of coffee, the rainforest and practically no one else :-)

we really enjoyed our stay, recommend paying a little extra to have your own private guide. This way you can do as much or as little activity as you like. We had some excellent walks, long, through the jungle.

Room Tip: I liked our room, but since it was on the lake it was somewhat noisy with the fish and animals at night. during the day, it was very quiet, never heard any staff members

My second time at La Selva, and I love this place! Warm welcomming from the stuff, a guide with a lot of knowledge not to forget the native guide who makes us use our ears and eyes in a more mindful way. The food is excellent specially together with all the fruits and juices. I love go canooing around the lake and into the junglecreeks watching birds, all the green and listening to all junglesounds and luckly I got time! Yogalesson by the lake with the beautiful surroundings I can recommend between the guided tours! The visit in the nearby village was interesting, and the natives were good guides and hosts. Keep on supporting theese families!

We spent three nights here. Our guide, Paul, met us in Coca and we took the 2.5 hour motorized canoe to the dock, where we hiked to a canoe for the half hour paddled canoe ride to the lodge. The lodge rooms have screens, but no shades or curtains. There was a ceiling fan. It was hot and humid. We loved the excursions and the whole experience. I caught a piranha. The food was more than adequate, particularly given the logistics of providing fresh produce and supplies. We were very happy overall with the experience and the opportunity to experience the Amazonian basin rain forest.
