I really cannot say enough about the lodge and staff. It really was a dream trip! So much to see and do, but also time to relax in a beautiful place. Our guides showed us birds, animals, and butterflies that were just unbelievable. The village trip was a highlight also.

    Dear Kimberly,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review about La Selva!

Sometimes when you visit a new and different place, there are no words to match how you feel!

Lots of guests love the trip to the native community. It is a surreal experience catching a glimpse of what real life is like in the Amazon Jungle, what plants they use to eat, heal, treat wounds, etc. Plus, their ancestral knowledge is just out of this world and they love to share it with our guests at La Selva!

    Thanks again and safe travels!

Hi there and thank you for your review!

There is always something going on in the jungle if you look closely! Either way, we're happy you enjoyed your time and you're wife was able to relax in our Amazon Spa.

One other thing, you don't necessarily have to be in the best physical shape. When booking mention what kinds of activities you are interested in and when you arrive to La Selva, your guides will arrange the days accordingly.

We've had guests with disabilities even come to La Selva. At La Selva, there is something for everyone, no matter what your physical abilities are.

    All the best,

We have kicked off our Ecuador family vacation with a 4 day/3 night stay at La Selva Lodge. I hesitatingly chose this lodge over others - my hesitation was because the activities looked a little tame for our adventurous family. I should have never hesitated.

My 8 year old son just announced that you don't need Wifi in the jungle because there is so much to do. (Amazingly, there is wifi, but it's slow - but we all put down our devices.). My 17 year old daughter announced she is now ready to audition for Naked and Afraid, based on all she learned in the Jungle.

Sound good? Here are the dets:

    1. The food is very good - user friendly for kids and creative enough for adults

    2. Yoga class and Spa were very relaxing - which is good because we otherwise stayed so busy

    3. The combination of naturalist guide and local guide was awesome. Both were extremely knowledgeable and flexible with walks and talks to keep our family interested in nature, history and culture.

    4. Mainly - this is no Disney Land. This is not touristy. This is the real deal. It's off the beaten path. It's nature in nature, yet comfortable and accommodating.

To keep both an 8 year old boy and teenage girl engaged and entertained sometimes quite a trick. We often have to "take turns" for activities. But here, we could truly have joint, family bonding activities for everyone.

And no. The mosquitoes are not that bad.

    Thank you so much!

Your story is similar to another where a father came to La Selva with his children who at first were glued to their cell phones and tablets...long story short, when it came time for them to leave, the kids actually cried because they did not want to leave! And guess what they forgot behind in their suites...their electronic devices!

It is amazing what nature can do. We absolutely love hearing reviews like yours and we welcome anyone to La Selva to experience the simple power of nature and the bond that can be created.

Thank you so much for putting your confidence in choosing us. We are so happy to be part of moments like these.

All the best to you and your family!

This place is very pleasant rather than luxurious, but you are in the heart of the Amazon rainforest! The complex is positioned alongside a beautiful lake accessible only by canoe. The grounds are lush and you can see a great deal of fauna from the windows and balconies. Morning and afternoon/evening you are taken out on walks, canoe rides, local community visits. At other times you can swim, kayak or enjoy the spa. But sometimes there is no hot water, rather it is luke warm; there is often a vague sewerage smell; the hot steamy weather is exhausting and because of the high humidity, nothing dries, which is a problem since there are no laundry facilities or options for drying other than using your ceiling fan 24/7. The fan is the only air-conditioning; there is no phone service, limited wifi and no TV - but, I stress, you are in the heart of the Amazon and since you wake very early for most activities (to avoid the midday heat), you fall into bed early at night - media and technology are the last things on your mind. The wildlife and scenery are amazing, the guides are very good, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is good quality and varied (unless you are vegetarian, then dishes tend to repeat). This place feels authentic if you want a real Amazon Rainforest experience. Two nights is too short but 5 nights is plenty unless they can increase the comfort factor.

Room Tip: The huts are more interesting to stay in than the main building

We did the 4 day/ 3 night package but also arranged accommodation in Quito for a night either side through the lodge. We could not have been happier with the service from the moment we were picked up in Quito. Very personalised without being overbearing, and made sure we were looked after all the way. The lodge itself is beautifully located on the edge of a small oxbow lagoon and the rooms vary with some overlooking the lagoon, some as free standing cabins facing towards the jungle and large family suites. The activities started very early (530am wake up) to make the most of the cooler part of the day when the wildlife is more active. Options included walking, self-kayaking, canoeing, fishing...all accompanied by an English speaking naturalist guide and a local guide. We had Luis as our naturalist guide and he was excellent with perfect English and encyclopaedic knowledge. Our local guide was Henrique who seemed to be able to spot the most hidden, minute or distant wildlife with amazing accuracy. It's not like the Galapagos where you virtually trip over the wildlife and get very close, you really need a good pair of binoculars and a degree of patience and luck. We ended up seeing more birds in our last hour standing on the observation deck above the restaurant, than we did from the canopy level observation platform which is a 20 minute walk from the lodge. By the end of 3 days we had seen at least 30 different types of birds and 5 different types of monkeys plus abundant variety of flora, amphibians, reptiles and insects. The bird and animal booklet provided by the lodge was excellent as was the carry sac and water bottle as take home momentos.

All in all a wonderful stay...we would suggest doing this before you go to Galapagos so that you don't arrive with the expectation of wildlife being up close and personal.

    Dear Anna,

    Thank you for your stay.

Like you said, it is not that easy to spot the wildlife, but thats why we have our amazing guides so our guests see everything that is there to see.
