i stayed in montanita on 4 different occasions
total around 4 months and i stayed in many hostels but in this one i spent the most time. its a perfect place to feel really good at after being outside all day in the sun and sand, i would come to a clean room AC great bed and overall comfort.
Also this place is perfect for girls. i didnt mind cold showers and dirty floors at other hostels but my GF loved that their bathrooms are huge and shower is hot :)

Room tip: first floor rooms are the best, also if you feel like chilling at a big pool ask the staff about it.

The hotel i not cleaned daily. The cleaning staff was missing and not replaced while I was there. The hotel is located opposite a dirty river which attracts mosquitoes. In the back of the hotel, there was a very strong bad smell.

The Riviera Pacific Suites, located on the estuary about 4 blocks from the beach in Monanita, is well situated for easy beach access and minimization of noise from the festivities. Our two room suite on the top floor had a fabulous view of the ocean. Our unit was immaculate and well appointed, with a very comfortable bed. Unfortunately, An up-to-date and well appointed suite does not rate a 5 if ..... There was no hot water on arrival, there were no towels for the bathroom, the AC unit had be be unplugged and plugged in, since no remote was provided to adjust the tmeperature and showering al freco without a winddow curtain is only for exhibitionists. having said, that, we will consider staying there again, being forwarned of the small but annoying issues.

The rooms are well appointed and the bed was comfortable. Nice deck and view.
We had some problems however. Luke warm (at best) shower, had to ask fot t.p. and towels. Slippery floor and no bath mat. No curtain in the bathroom. No water in the pool, no advertised bar. Despite all that...I would go back if I could not find a nicer place confirmed by a friend.

Room tip: 4 th floor, room 16 has a view.

We stayed at the Riviera as a couple but it's a great place to come with a few friends because the rooms can accomadate 5 to 7 people because they are very spacious and have 2 to 3 beds. The rooms also have large balconies with a great view of the town, river and ocean. There's a nice roof top terrace to relax and have a drink and a minifridge in the room.

The staff on site don't speak much english but with their basic english and our basic spanish we always managed also the owners live in Montanita and speak english so if ever there's a problem they can always come over and help. For example, we had a problem at check out to pay the balance because the atm s had to be refilled with money and we didn't want to pay with credit card because the bank on the other end charges an extra tax, so we were able to deal with the owner to make a direct deposit in the hotels account. Thankfully he was able to arrange that for us because we had to catch a bus to Guayaquil and couldn't wait for the bank to get more money (this often happens in Montanita and usually is fixed within 24 hours but it's unpredictable).

Riviera is situated off to the side of Montanita but still close enough to the middle of town that you will hear the music from the clubs at night and people in the streets and although we traveled during low season, it's party night pretty much every night which is a lot of fun when you want to stay out but it could be annoying for famillies with younger children or older couples. If you think the noise of the nightlife might bother you but still want to visit this town, i would suggest renting on the outskirts of town, for example San Jose.

Overall we had a good experience

Room tip: Ask to lower the price on weekdays if you are staying for a whole week including the weekend
