We've travelled to a number of resorts recently but this one was by far the best. It's not just because of the location (probably the best in Wailai) or because it's a Fairmont (a very good hotel chain). This place was special. The building and grounds are beautifull and the staff were helpfull and engaging from the welcoming lei and juice at check in down to the hotel cleaning staff. Our room was designed in a way that takes full advantage of a large deck and living area with a spectacular view of the Pacific. The new renovated Ko restaurant is truly spectacular in every way. The food is a combination of Hawaiin fusion mixed with Asian and every table is situated in such a way to enjoy the sunset. We took full advantage of the many activities the hotel offers - free fitness classes and a cultural tour of the property. We look forward to a return visit.

Great stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani, it was a wonderful stay from start to finish. We went for 8 nights with our 10 month old son and our parents. The staff were exceptional from arrival through all our meals and activities right up to departure. The room was amazing, the suite was very spacious and the bathrooms were incredible. It was great to have a one bedroom suite for our family as our baby needs to go to bed quite early and it was easy for us to put him down and hang out in the suite or on the spacious patio. The grounds and facilities were great and very kid friendly (although they do also have an adult pool which is very nice). We took part in many of the free activities offered, including a fitness class and a cultural tour. The breakfast restaurant offered a great buffet with an omelet station and the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome with a little one. We did enjoy two dinners and one lunch in Ko, their newly renovated restaurant. It was beautiful and the food was excellent. The lobby bar is a beautiful place to watch the Maui sunset and the drinks are great. Overall, one of the best holidays ever!

We have stayed at many excellent hotels and although the staff were very friendly this was not one of them. Very expensive - over 1K a day for the Signature Suite which is actually quite small. As others have noted they do nickel and dime you for everything. Umbrellas, boogie boards and $13 drinks. Breakfast buffet is fine, Nick's restaurant is excellent but again very expensive (but then that is Hawaii). Room cleaning was sub-par for our experience. Beach is nice. Again staff were all quite friendly and generally eager to help but over-priced for the room and extra costs.

My husband and I are both very well travelled and run the gamet from backpacking to luxury travel, all over the world. We usually rent a condo during our other trips to Maui.

Overall our trip was fabulous but here it is broken down into categories-

CHECK IN- Our room was not ready when we arrived, but they offered us a room to use (and of course a cold drink and lei). We opted instead to grab a bite to eat and sit by th pool while we waited.

ROOMS- We had a garden view room and it was lovely. Except for upgrades all the standard rooms are huge! Easily the best bathroom ever? A living room, bar in foyer and bedroom along with a huge deck. More than enough room for the two of us. Definitely worth the money for such generous square footage.

POOLS- If you are a pool person this is the resort for you- The big Main pool has the swim up bar, a slide to a lower pool. (full of kids so we didnt go in), And an adult pool (very quiet, we loved it) and the lack of swim up bar didnt matter as pool side service was very attentive... Including pineapple slices and ice water.

FOOD- Loved All the room service food pool side but other than that one indulgent buffet brunch (always a favorite fairmont calorie splurge!) we ate off site.

ACTIVITIES- Loved the yoga in the morning. We stand up paddled in the morning and they were very helpful directing us. Turtles came right upto our boards....amazing!

SERVICE- Second to none, everyone couldntb do enough for you. This would be my biggest reason to going back. Everyone is always smiling and helpful with whatever we needed.

OVERALL- It depends what kind of holiday you are after, with our kids I still think I would pick a condo. But this trip was so relaxing and although maui has lots to see (if you chose to leave the hotel) if you just want to lie in tropical surroundings away from kids for a week and relax this would be my first choice for that. Would I go back? Yes.

This was our 3rd trip to Maui but our 1st time to Wailea. We stayed in Feb. 2012 and the hotel renovations were nearly complete. It looked like they were still working on rooms on the wing at the southern end of the hotel as well as the Ko restaurant.

We absolutely loved the rooms! The extra space was quite nice and the decor was tasteful. We found the staff to be attentive and prompt. The beach and pools were nice too. The overall decor of the hotel common areas seemed a odd- not your typical hawaiian decor with lots of archways and white walls. But, the decor is nice, just different.

Our only complaint was that we found it very annoying to constantly have hotel staff using the same elevators as the guests. We wondered if it had something to do with the renovations and decided the staff elevators must be temporarily disabled. I'm not against sharing an elevator with a staff member, but it was constantly an issue with lots of housekeeping staff trying to fit in their bulky laundry carts in the elevator with the guests. Quite unusual as I have never experienced anything like it.
