I feel so good to be a member of the RSPB and to contribute to this wonderful organisation. The reserve has a number of marked walks which are very interesting and car parking is free for members. There are also some well situated hides to sit and snap the wildlife

Have visited the majority of RSPB reserves and this would rank as OK, not bad but certainly nothing special given it is the RSPBs H.O. Site. Left somehow feeling that more could be done.

Thank your comments.

Although it is now an integral part of the site, a lot of work has been done to restore the heathland here over the last 13 years and this year we had our first pair of nightjars on site for over 45 years, as well as breeding hobbies and spotted flycatchers. The heathland is now the largest in Bedfordshire.

Spent a dull and wet morning walking around the trails, we hardly saw a single bird so rare disappointing especially when they charge £6.00 to park

Hi Adrian,

Sorry to hear you had a quiet visit bird-wise and it was a wet day. With hobbies, nightjars and spotted flycatcher's breeding alongside the commoner species we have had a very good year at The Lodge, but early September is traditionally a quiet time in woodlands anywhere as many of the breeding birds leave to go back to Africa and the winter birds haven't arrived yet.

Hope you can try again, and on a nicer day!

Kind regards,

Mark

Much improved since my last visit a couple of years ago. My 6 year old grandson loved usuing his new binoculars in the hide and was thrilled to be asked to help fill the bird feeders. The walks were well sign posted. Staff in the visitor centre were helpful. All in all an enjoyable few hours

Lovely tranquillity.. beautiful walk with the kids, they loved it. Great for the 'outdoorsy' people. Great to clear the cobwebs of the rat race.
