We love staying at the Far View when we visit Mesa Verde. The room is clean and neat, warm for chilly nights and facing the morning sun! After hikes it is the perfect place for a nap before a tour and after a tour because This is a big place and there are lots to see.

Staff at check in was cheerful and helpful. Only one person so when the people ahead of us had billing issues the line was held up while the situation was resolved. Our stay was October 11 so perhaps there are fewer staff this time of year. The room was comfortable with a perfect view of the sunset. The shower in our room does need TLC as the water guard on the bottom of the shower door fell off. Perfect location for viewing the sites of Wetherill Mesa one day then Chapin Mesa on another day.

Room Tip: We stayed in a single level room of terraced sections. Patio with table and two chairs facing the sunset is unobstructed.

We stayed at Far View Lodge for two nights while on a short visit to Mesa Verde NP. The marginal extra expense of staying at FVL (as compared to staying in Cortez or Durango) was easily made up by the savings in travel time from to the main sites in the park. The travel time to the main gate alone is close to 40 mins. The views from the rooms aren't half bad either.

My wife and I had a room with two queen beds, porch, etc. We were fine with the level of finish. It's just a room after all and not having a tv didn't bother us either. The wifi worked fine for us.

We would recommend FVL to other like minded travellers who have only a short amount of time to spend in the park and are looking to maximize their time.

We visited in October, one week before they close down for winter? The staff was friendly and welcoming.. The rooms are small but updated with attractive decor. There was a heavy Pendleton blanket hanging on the wall that was perfect for wrapping yourself up in to sit on the small balcony and watch the sun come up. The views are amazing! You can easily see 50-60 miles from anywhere on the property. We had two double beds and the bed was not as comfortable as I would have liked but that was my only complaint. Each room has a lot of privacy so you can lie in bed and look out the large picture window and look at the stars and sunrise or sunset. Next time I would get a room with a west orientation for sunset viewing. If you live in one of the Four Corner states they have a special in September-October for residents of these states which is about 50% off the regular price. This is a great location for visiting the sites in Mesa Verde.

If you're going to visit Mesa Verde, a stay at the Far View lodge offers the best experience. The drive up from the park entrance is beautiful. The lodge offers stunning views and places you were at the beginning of the trails. We had mule deer right outside of our room in the morning. Very comfortable room (we had 126). There is great fine dining and lounge food (great burgers) as well as breakfast options in the Far View Terrace, which is a great way to start the day. The drive up from the visitors center is at least 20 minutes and staying at Far View places you right in the park - can't beat that .

The guided bus tour of Mesa Verde which includes a park ranger guided tour of a cliff dwelling is worth the money and highly recommended. The cliff dwelling tours differ during the year and our tour was of Balcony House with ranger John-fantastic!
