The amenities of the house are defined by its situation, out on its own on a high hillside overlooking a valley filled by companionable owl calls in the dark and tinkling cow bells in daylight. Butane gas provides hot water for wash basin, shower and kitchen sink, and powers four hobs for cooking. A plentiful supply of wood can be used in the fireplace, for heating and for grilling. Solar panels deliver a moderate level of electricity, including for a refrigerator and a television set. Upstairs the beds are comfortably firm and so helpful to sleep. Overall the design of the house is attractive. Access to and from the house is by a stretch of farm road, off a narrow and winding mountain road that starts from close to the River Sella. From there the lakes of Covadonga and the Cornión, the western massif of the Picos de Europa, can be reached.
