On arrival to Clover Holiday Complex I was quick to notice the "no smoking" signs around the walls, yet the distinct smell of cigarette smoke and fumes came from reception. We were greeted by 2 very friendly staff members who checked us in and welcomed us. We took the small lift to our 2nd floor superior room where I was pleasantly surprised. I had read a number of reviews prior to going and was more then apprehensive about what awaited us. A spacious apartment style room which had a double bed, a large open plan kitchen/living space, a clean bathroom and extra room with 2 single beds in. The room, like the rest of the hotel could do with bringing up to date but was clean and suited us just for the 4 nights we were staying. We had working air conditioning and a double balcony that overlooked the pool and sun deck area. The beds were firm, which personally I prefer, but lumpy pillows and creaky frames did make it difficult not to have an undisturbed nights sleep. The shower was attached to the bath taps but had warm water and was powerful enough. The pool was absolutely freezing but the area around it was kept clean. The indoor pool area however looked and felt like it had been abandoned for some time. We paid for half board but would not recommend staying at the hotel, especially if you enjoy sampling local cuisine. The menu consists of burger, fish and chips, chicken and salad etc. and one choice of drink (excluding beer) for your evening meal and cereal/croissant, full English, omelette etc. and one drink for breakfast. We ate the first night of our holiday and made the choice to avoid having an evening meal again. The 'restaurant' staff were extremely friendly and greeted us each morning. From speaking to other holiday goers there at the same time it seemed that booking the half board option 'upgraded' us to the superior room - the standard room seemed to be a far worse option of accommodation yet didn't tie you into the food at the hotel. We also tried to book an evening excursion via our hotel yet the staff seemed to have little knowledge of it despite having leaflets in the reception area. We were disappointed when on our last night we waited for collection to find we had been told the wrong information and booked in the wrong night. Although we received our deposit back, it was made awkward to do so.
Fine hotel for a short break but for any longer, only if you want to eat English on a half board basis. Good location, only 5 minutes one way into the town and Buggibba bus station and 5 minutes the other way to The National Aquarium.

Hotel badly in need of a make over - has basis of being good premises but shabby, air con ancient and malfunctioning, furniture dirty and old - do for a basic base holiday but overpriced for what it is.

Room Tip: overpriced for self catering which we never used - ask for b&B

That was the most expensive and worst accommodation experience from our 2 weeks trip. This place didn't get any refresh since it was build probably in early '80s. We booked an apartment but everything there was almost falling apart. Bed made a terrible noise every time you moved. On cook top there is a thick layer of many years old fat stinks when you try to heat it up. Microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge are yellow from old and sticky... Whole room smells actually like mold. Wifi is paid 10e a day. Toilet..... .... worst spent money I ever did

I arrived with a little trepidation after reading some reviews but previous experience made me read deep into these reviews.
I'll start with the negatives yes the hotel could do with an overhaul but hang on this is Malta and I think a lot of people go to Spain etc. and think all hotels should look like those. The room did look a little tired but what do you get for your money the rooms are extremely spacious and the sitting area is roomy although the balconies are very small.
The kitchens have everything you require and more although the equipment is dated.
There is ample wardrobe space which is more than can be said for many more modern apartments.
The bathrooms are also very spacious and shower works could be picky again and say shower curtains are too short but does this effect your holiday I'd say not.
Staff very friendly and lovely small pool area in centre of building, small restaurant on site again with very obliging staff.
Within 200m of aquatic centre and this is next to one of those infinity pool complexes that you can hire a bed for 20 euros for the day and is well worth the day in there with food and drink brought to your bed throughout. Most buses also pick up at the aquarium and the main bus station is within 5 minutes walk
Restaurants are a plenty both in the Street in front and behind and all within 5 or 10 minutes walk, offering a variety of different types of food.
I would definitely have no problem in stays here again because does the fact it doesn't have a spanking flat screen tv with up to date furniture and a glass front fridge really matter to me not in the slightest
