We were interested to read the largely negative reviews of late so we thought we would add our opinions to the mix. We do so in the supposed knowledge that the hotel is shortly to close in anticipation of being converted into private apartments so any review might not exactly be relevant to any future bookings.

Anyway, all things said, its obvious that the Club Salinas Wharf comprises a mix of modernised and unmodernised apartments which quite understandably influences peoples views of their stay. We were lucky enough to be allocated one of the low rise apartments (Room 224) which was fully modernised and it really was superb. Tastefully decorated and furnished and equipped to a very high standard, including a full kitchen with Smeg oven, comfortable beds in the bedroom, 32" flat screen telly in the comfortable lounge area etc. We really could not fault any of the aspects of the apartment, which considering we paid only £40 per night, was tremendous value.

We would also have to take exception with some of the comments on the location of the property and the public areas of the property itself. One reviewer suggested that the area around the hotel was "unsafe" and that is arrant nonsense. Like many areas of Qwara and Bugibba there is a huge number of renovation projects on the go, with some older hotels reduced to shells awaiting refurbishment. This can give the impression of the area being a bit run down but it certainly is not unsafe. As it happens the hotel is only one street back from the Qwara sea front and is a great location for getting around.

In the property itself the reception area is spacious and airy and whilst some of the sofas etc have seen better days they are more than acceptable. The external areas round the pool etc were also more than acceptable; yes the sunloungers were old but were perfectly functional, and there were a few areas where the patterned imprinted concrete has broken but again not to the extent that they would be considered unsafe.
Overall though we thought the whole property was kept spotlessly clean, and provided we were able to secure a similar room to the one we were given on this occasion, we would have no hesitation to return.

This is a moot point if the place is closing however, and the uncertainty is probably weighing on the minds of the staff we met, who were "professional" rather than friendly, and the whole property seemed to have a strangely quiet feel to it. There did not seem to be that many guests when we were there, and the bar/restaurant was rarely open. That didn't bother us in the slightest, since we were out and about most of the day, and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms in the modernised blocks.

Having read the reviews we went with an open mind. We weren't expecting luxury for the price we paid for our holiday package - just a clean safe base we could use for our holiday. The reception & pool area were all fine & seemed clean & well kept. Our room was spacious but tired. Initially there were a number of small things wrong in the room but we decided that they weren't bad enough to make a fuss about. The kettle didn't work but this was replaced. There was a leak under the bathroom sink which we reported twice but wasn't dealt with - I don't think they believed us as it only happened when the water drained away after the sink had been full with the plug in. However, this was nothing to what happened a day or so later. At 7am we discovered water dripping through the bathroom ceiling. The maintence guy did come straight away. Having located the leak upstairs he returned after a while to say it was fixed. However, as we went to go out at 10am we discovered that the water was coming through again but much faster & over the entire ceiling. The maintenance guy returned & on removing the ceiling panels it was obvious that there was a lot of water coming through. We were told we had to wait until 1pm before we would know if we could be moved to another room - as the manager didn't come in until then. We were then stuck all morning with a room with no bathroom facilities & water spreading into the kitchen & living areas. At 1pm we were told that the manager was just showing someone a room & would then deal with us. When he returned to reception he completely ignored us & went into his office. The receptionist had to go to ask him about a room. He didn't come out to speak to us but just told her which room to offer us. We were given a key card & told where the room was. The room was of a similar standard but smaller. However, we accepted it as we just wanted to get on with our holiday. Once we had moved our stuff we discovered we had no hot water. I insisted on speaking to the manager at this point. I was very upset & stressed & pointed out to him that nobody had made any attempt to apologise for the inconvenience or to help us in anyway. He completely ignored my point & said someone from maintence would come to the room. The maintence guy then turned all the hot taps on full & then ran them for quite a while until eventually hot water came through. We then had to do this every time we wanted hot water. As with the other room there were a number of issues (like being a given a bed sheet that wasn't big enough to cover the mattress) but by this point we decided there was no point in saying anything. We had been made to feel that we were being a nuisance & it was obvious that nobody cared even though we had tried to be calm & polite throughout. We were left having lost a day of our holiday & feeling drained & stressed. We decided to make the best of the rest of our holiday & thankfully Malta itself was fabulous. I know that the hotel is about to close so they don't care about bad reviews. However, I hope that the manager does read this & reflects on how he treats other members of the human race. A simple sorry for the inconvenience, taking the time to deal with us personally & arranging for someone to help us move our stuff would have gone a long way. We didn't ask for anything more than to be treated with respect & not to be made to feel like second class citizens.

This is the worst place we have ever stayed - the room was dank , smelly and dirty, the furniture was extremely dated and felt like it was from the 70's. The whole hotel is uninviting and has a depressing feel to it. Everything is on it's last legs and needs replacing. We didn't sunbathe round the pool as it also looked very uninviting , the outside areas are scruffy and filthy . We instead went to the Seashells hotel on the seafront and sunbathed there. We tried to stay out all day and kept the time spent in the room to a minimum as it was so bad. There is nothing good to say about this hotel - it is grotty and needs condemning or demolishing asap .

Room Tip: There are no good rooms

The hotell is average, we stayed in a 2 bedroomed appartment. The
interior is showing marks of wear, but it was clean. The beds were large and
OK to sleep in, kitchen area good, plates forks knives glasses etc. and cooking ware are there, also microwave. pool area fairly ok, some sunbeds are worn out and a bit slopy, but outside pool area and pool are OK. Inside pool, is warm water, although as all inside pools the smell of chlorine is strong, also the water is foggy from chlorine. There is karaoke nights in the bar at the pool(we didnt hear it in the room), otherwise its quiet. We didnt eat in the restaurant, so I cant say anything about that. Overall it is a normal hotel, you get what you have payed for!

Booked here under the proviso of a 4 star Silver deluxe apartment!!
All I can say is .....their star rating system is obviously very different from ours.....shower hanging off the wall...balcony screens ripped.....sofa cushions burst.....kitchen worktops cracked and unhygienic...no soaps or shower gel.....unless you go to complain at reception.....depending which member of staff on......varies from helpful to couldn't give a poop....malta is an amazing place full of fantastic people....this is not the place to experience this.
