My partner and I stayed here for 10 days on a B&B basis. We had a room on the 5th floor with a balcony and could see the sea over the buildings. however we were only given one plastic chair so had to go down to reception to ask for a second.

Altho the room was generally clean, it was a little dated and had some stains on the carpet, could really do with being refurbished. It was also advertised as having a mini-bar, but this was empty and never restocked. No tea or coffee in the room either, you have to pay extra for that. We were also not given a duvet, only a sheet and a blanket that we found in the wardrobe.

The size of the bathroom was ok, but it didn't have any shelves or surfaces (other than the ceramic sink) and so I had to keep all my toiletries on the floor. The shower only had one pane of glass perpendicular to the shower head and so when taking a shower all the water could easily escape onto the bathroom floor, making your feet wet every time you use the bathroom afterwards and the bathroom ended up have a damp atmosphere.

The daily cleaning of the room was awful. Often we would only be left with one large bathroom towel (I had to leave a note asking to have 2), they didn't touch the toilet roll or even leave us more until I made it obvious we needed more by leaving the almost empty roll on top of the toilet seat, and we would often come back to find the balcony door being left wide open, anyone in the rooms next to us could have climbed over onto our balcony and entered our room while we were out, a big security issue.

Altho I think the door was left open as our room started to smell a bit damp as our aircon unit kept leaking. We told reception about this twice, and on both occasions they sent someone to fix it, the leak eventually got better, but never truly resolved.

As for the breakfast, they offered different options, such as cereal, cakes, bread, cheese and hot food, but I found it all a little disappointing. In the cheese section there was only tasteless processed cheese slices or feta (which often ran out before I arrived). The hot section (which all ended up being a warm, rather than hot) never offered hash browns or mushrooms (so as a vegetarian my plate looked a little sad), and they only rarely offered scrambled egg. The juices were not actually juice, but squash, there was no variety of tea (just breakfast) and the coffee tasted like dirty water.

We occasionally used the swimming pool, which was pleasant, but didn't use the hotel bars in the evening as the theme and music was aimed at the older generations. Not the hotels fault, but something to bare in mind if you are expecting to use the bars.

The good points include easy parking, it has a large free public car park located just across the road which was handy, and the location wasn't too bad, about 5-10 min walk into the old town. And the staff were all very nice.

But unfortunately, all in all, I was disappointed with the hotel and if we go back to Malta we will definitely look for somewhere else to stay.

Just returned from our forth visit to the Santana Hotel, as always the rooms and public areas were very clean and tidy.
The hotel is well situated with good amenity's, food was excellent with plenty of choice, staff very friendly and sociable.
The addition of the garden at the rear is very welcoming.

Room Tip: Front rooms are large and spacious

Rooms quite roomy. Food was good and plenty to choose from we had Half Board which financially worked out better than B/B The staff were exceptional always ready to help any way they could and very courteous A lovely Swimming Pool on the top of the Hotelwith so much room up there to sunbathe
The Hotel paintwork at the front of the Hotel needs a touch up as the back of the hotel
looked as if it had been done so on arrival its not a very good first impression
While there it appears there are some work going on on a future extension the workers
only worked mornings...The Hotel itself very clean.

Room Tip: 4th floor was quiet plenty of Lifts differculty at first the direction signs get you lost

Having read previous reviews was a little apprehensive about this hotel. We booked a suite and only stayed B & B. The suite is in need of some refurbishment, furniture a little tired and decor needs updating, however it was large, spacious and had everything we needed. Cheap plastic table and chairs on the balcony which overlooked the street and car park which can be quite noisy (we were on the 3rd floor). Not really a pleasant view but the hotel is situated in the centre and I guess the only sea views maybe from the 6th floor. Breakfast was good and plenty of choice but don't expect English brand sausages and bacon, you are in Malta and plenty of people seemed to enjoy the cooked breakfast. Staff were pleasant and helpful, particularly the waitresses in The Zazen Garden which is a lovely place to relax and enjoy a drink in the evening. Would we return unfortunately not the location wasn't really what we wanted and we found the surrounding areas quite busy and a little commercialised. That said we did enjoy the time we spent in Malta but would probably look for somewhere quieter if we returned to the island.

Dear Reviewer,

We would like to thank you for the time spent reviewing Hotel Santana.

Your comments with regards to the rooms will be taken into consideration by the management.

Whilst the hotel is situated few minutes away from the sea, the location is quite central to shops and amenities one would need. Furthermore, the public transport is available only 2 minutes walking distance.

We thank you again for your review and we hope that we will have the pleasure to welcome you again to Hotel Santana in the future.

The general area around the Hotel looked a bit rundown. Potholes in the road, rundown places around and wobbly railings on the promenade. You have to watch the traffic too the people are mad drivers. The hotel Santana itself is a good hotel. The facilities are good but we did have a couple of gripes. The dining room aircon was very cold so we didn't hang about in there, could be a good ploy by the hotel. Breakfast was extremely busy and finding a seat was a bit difficult at times but it was ok at evening dinner. The food was good. Our rooms were situated on the side of the hotel and were extremely noisy, didn't help we were on the first floor so no escape from the bin men at 6am. Having said that the rooms themselves were very good. They looked like they had just been refurbished and the bathrooms were excellent. The kettle and tea and coffee facility was very welcome. The cleaner was lovely, very friendly. The staff were all nice, if a little serious. We liked the hotel very much but felt a little money should be spent on the resort itself.

Room Tip: Higher is better and away from the side of the building.
