Right off the main road into Montefalco, we spot Re Tartu... terrace dining, Rated very high, nice menu selection...absolutely wonderful. The brochette of truffles...incredible! My wife had the trout...wow. I had the home made pasta with asparagus,..local baby pickings...we've never seen this before and so very tasty and tender...but the finish of the black cherry pana cotta, was ...??? beyond expectations...Great wine list, helpful staff sorting out the menu with us. This is a don't miss place..

Andrea the owner is amazing. He made great suggestions and helped with the wine. He even booked a wine tasting for us! Food delicious and fairly priced.

This town has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to restaurants. This restaurant is irresistible. With a beautiful view, delightful food and wonderful service you simply can't go wrong. The pasta with tartufo was spectacular. This is a place one would return to again and again.

To write this review is a pleasure. We stumbled into Montfalco as we tried to see everything on our last day in Umbria. As we walked into town, we passed this place, it looked good, it was lunchtime, so in we go.
The owner is very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The waiter was very friendly and fun. The setting is- aside from the lovely view- very clean, bright, wine-centric, beautiful. The ham is just in the dining room behind a counter in view (the most incredible tasting thing I have ever eaten ever).
We started with a local wine that was truly excellent (we took the recommendation of the waiter- upper mid range in the group).
We selected the antipasto selection for four- the cheeses, the cured meat, could eat that everyday and be happy. Their ham was 50 months aged. Again, so sweet we had to have seconds. Cheeses were lovely, local and fresh.
For the main course we had the special- house made tagliatelle with white truffles in a very light sauce. Honestly, the pasta was the star. Light, tender, perfect. The pasta didn't drown in a heavy sauce allowing each part to share the stage. Other dishes were porcini over strangozzi, ravioli w tomatoes and pistachios. Very well balanced and prepared. Again, each component was able to shine in the dish.
We had to have dessert- olive oil and rosemary scented "creme" over tart cherries and their tiramisu. Both were standouts.
After traveling through Florence, Rome, Tuscany and Umbria for 2 weeks, with many pre-planned restaurants, Michelin star chefs, I must say that this was perhaps the best meal I had. The chef, a young woman, came out at the end of lunch to say hello. It is a family run restaurant. She has an excellent feel for flavors- delicate, complex.
Brava!
