“Year round wonderland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2013

As a resident of metro Richmond, I have been to Maymont many times. From the petting farm and mature animal exhibits, arboretum and gardens, science center and mansion to the rolling landscape this is a place not to be missed. ( and not easily forgotten ! ) Open to the public year round, free of charge, this 'city' park is a four season wonderland. Some days it buzzes with people and activity. Others, it feels like you have it all to yourself. Weddings, festivals, picnics and quiet walks all are common and appropriate. Each visit can be a unique experience.

“delightful stroll garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

I came specifically for the Japanese garden and to learn how Maymont celebrated a 100 year anniversary last year. The garden is elegant in its renovation and expansion from Y. Muto's original design through Bruce Stark's expansion and Junko Liesfield's azumaya. Many talented and dedicated volunteers were at work weeding the iris patch when we visited. Always nice to see happy volunteers. Children -- both in strollers and walking -- with their mothers were the main clientele on our weekday morning visit. The estate grounds and house -- open on a donation basis -- are well worth a visit.

“Beautiful free park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013 via mobile

If you happen to be near downtown Richmond, and feel like you need to get away from the bussy trafic, then go to Maymont park. It has 3 different entrance. Parking is free also the park is free. You only need to pay a small fee if you like to ride the trolley or tour the house. The park itself will take you a few hours to go around and enjoy every creature in it. Today I spotted the black bear, owls, hawks, and bats. Beautiful in the spring and fall. Don't forget to visit the most serene part Japanese garden and beautiful italian garden. I promise you will not be dissapointed.

“Awesome”

The jap garden and waterfall were awesome. Very romantic setting, perfect for picnic or walk with special someone. My wife and I jogged the park then came back for pictures.

“Beautiful Open Space Within the City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2013

Maymont was the location for a wedding reception that I attended in October 2013. The grounds were beautiful! I loved the rolling grassy hills with the mixture of natural areas and garden. Parking was a little tricky and not at all plentiful. The mansion tour was free to wedding guests, but I would totally recommend taking it in.
