We usually don't have dessert but something got us to go inside. Only to find this owned by a wonderful woman. Who also makes excellent Gelato. You can't go wrong here!

We lived in Europe for six years and have eaten a lot of gelato. Way too much gelato. So I feel qualified to judge gelato. We moved back to the US a year ago and I can say, without hesitation, that this is the best gelato we've had in this country.

After several free samples (thank you!) I went with two scoops - one of sour cherry swirl and one of cereal milk, which is similar to what the Austrians call "milcheis" and what the Italians call "fiordilatte." Both amazing. We also had chocolate flake (like straciatella), chocolate, lemon, mango, and I sampled pink grapefruit (also delicious but couldn't decide what to pair with it).

My husband read about it in Garden & Gun and the recommendation was spot on. As he was showing me the article at the shop and reading to me about the 82-year-old owner (he had brought the issue with him), the woman herself came over to clear our dishes and asked if we'd enjoyed it, and what flavors we had tried. She wanted to hear from all four of us, and told us she was glad we had come by.

Just go here - it's amazing. If we lived in Richmond, we'd be going here all the time!

This tiny shop has some food on offer as well as a great variety of homemade gelati. We had lunch there and it was acceptable; because we ordered mundane things it met expectations but the food is not why one would go here--it would be for the gelato. The gelato exceeded expectations--it was quite good. The challenge is to understand the array of scoop sizes--several and can be confusing. Because of the tempting array of flavors, some unusual and quite creative, we had a couple of tastes before deciding on pineapple sorbet and key lime pie gelato (one person) and cinnamon toast (the other person). Some of the flavors are not as intense as I'd have liked but some of them hit the ball out of the park, particularly the key lime pie, with bits of graham cracker "crust" for texture, and cinnamon toast, a lusciously cinnamon-flavored scoop that had bits of a cinnamon-crunchy cookie that enhanced the cinnamony goodness. The owner and her daughter were both there and quite delightful.

They have so many unique flavors from Earl Grey tea to Squid Ink to the basics like Hazelnut and French Vanilla. Tucked into a cute little corner where you can walk by some old buildings that are full of history. If you come here on First Fridays or any weekend night there's probably some activity there and people walking the streets too.

Cajun salted peanut gelato - so good. Cute place in a funky neighborhood. They also have treats for vegans.
