A long time Omaha classic known for breakfast. They have really good food. Service is decent, but can be a little inattentive at time. Consistency must be a problem because when I asked our server how large a portion was, she replied, "it depends on the mood of the cook." I later heard her say the same thing to a customer when asked about the size of the pancakes. Oh well, still a good diner choice for breakfast or lunch.

This is where the locals eat, and I guess if you watch Diners, Drive ins and Dives, you might have seen this too. The specialties are their italian sausage and ricotta pancakes so give them a try. The Italian omelet is very good, and share a pancake to give it a try. The waitresses are friendly, the place gives off a NY/NJ vibe, and it's all very reasonably priced.

In a restaurant world full of gimmicks and hype, few places with such integrity and authenticity remain. Open only for breakfast and lunch, Amato's offers genuine Italian food prepared in a simple, unadorned atmosphere. We enjoyed a breakfast of omelettes with sides of ham and bacon. The omelette was filled with a tasty mix of Italian sweet peppers, sausage and cheese. The sides were perfectly cooked. Service was friendly but not fawning.
This small cafe is a neighborhood, or perhaps even an Omaha, culinary institution but is quickly being surrounded by new development. Sam, the owner and namesake, passed away recently, and we sincerely hope the cafe can continue and thrive as a tribute to his memory.

Good stop for a quick breakfast at a family owned restaurant. They serve pastrami which I thought was a nice touch.

We stopped for breakfast on our way through town. My husband's breakfast included their famous sausage, and it was delicious! I opted for the raspberry ricotta pancakes. They were good, but I'm not much of a sweets person. Our son ordered the biscuits and gravy, and it was a pretty small plate with two biscuits and some gravy (not a lot of sausage) and it wasn't very warm. Maybe it was just an off order. We were thinking they must've given him a kids portion but it was the full price. If we go again we would definitely get some type of egg/sausage breakfast.
