West Seattle Junction

The Junction is a characteristic Seattle neighborhood with good restaurants, the original Bakery Nouveau, bars and shops. For visitors who want to do a little shopping or dining in a neighborhood generally off the main tourist circuit the Junction is a good choice. It is easy to pair a Junction visit with time down at Alki. Also every July they have the large West Seattle Summerfest which has an impressive live music lineup.

This bustling business district is the heart of Downtown West Seattle and offers something for just about everyone, from a children's toy shop to lots of places to eat. For example, the aromas emanating from Bakery Nouveau and Great Harvest Bread Company are hard to resist and an accurate reflection of the goodies within. I find the huge Husky Ice Cream and Deli fun to simply wander through. There are plenty of places to eat purchases at Husky inside and green plastic chairs outside. Cupcake Royale offers delicious treats and Jak's Grill has good eats. Restaurant cuisines in the area have a wide range, including Japanese and Italian.

For those interested in buying local food to take home, the Junction hosts a farmer's market every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting June 14, 2015, its new location will be California Avenue between Alaska and Oregon.

The West Seattle Water Taxi is a fun way to get here from Downtown Seattle. A free shuttle meets the taxi to take passengers to the Junction. Be sure to get on the correct shuttle as there is another that goes to Alki Beach. For those with vehicles, there are many free and pay parking lots.

West Seattle was, for a short time long ago, a city. Although it was annexed by Seattle, it retains a small town feel. There are several business districts with the Junction being a central area not to be missed. There are a number of restaurants, coffee shops, a great music store, children's toy store, as well as a variety of shops. Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm explore the farmer's market but beware, it is in one of the few parking lots most of the time. Consider parking ion a nearby street and walk a bit. Better yet, visit the junction by bus.

Very difficult to park. Limited free parking. Some of the West Seattle Junction parking lots are owned by Diamond parking. They will give you no slack. It will cost you dearly if you make even the slightest honest mistake BE WARNED!
