Do not pass go without booking this experience! From the booking experience with Yen Ly to meeting Susan and Dennis on the dock, I do not have enough words to describe how unique and enjoyable our two nights at the cabins were. The yurts exceeded our expectations - cozy, clean, and equipped with everything you would need. The view is spectacular, we went to sleep listening to the ocean waves beneath our feet, and woke to the most beautiful scene. The way they have constructed these yurts and boardwalks is nothing short of spectacular. My husband, a builder, was in awe;)

Dennis talked us through the kayak across the cove up to the bunker (which you should definitely do) and we relaxed, read books, met the other folks staying at the Island and thoroughly enjoyed our time. While the price may seem steep for the experience - I promise you it is well worth it! This is a labor of love and you can feel the magic when you're there. A must do :)

Katherine,

Delighted to hear that you and your husband enjoyed your stay at the island and glad to hear that you hiked up to the bunker - a recently added activity available to our guests. Additional boardwalk and another yurt are under construction for 2018 so there will be more to explore should you visit with us again. We appreciate your comments on your visit.

As we pulled up to the jetty, after a half an hour ride in a tinny from Seward, a group of guests greeted us..."welcome to heaven" they said, and as we looked around at our sublime surroundings, I think they just might be right. The water was an amazing shade of blue/green and perfectly clear, the yurts are all tucked in between groves of trees and linked by wooden walkways, little touches are everywhere. Our yurt overlooked the water, with a wonderful view to the south. You need to bring your own supplies, the big grocery store in Seward is near the marina and also your own ice for the provided ice box. The yurts are cosy and eco friendly. We stayed two nights...you'll want to stay longer.

Ripley,

Happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit with us at the island. Our goal has always been to provide comfortable and stylish accommodations in this remote, wilderness setting. Your comments speak to that and are appreciated.

This place is magical. It is like glamping but completely unique and an experience of a life time. The owner will pick you up from J dock. You take a water taxi to the orca island. Your cabin is a beautiful well furnished cozy yurt. The place is beautifully kept. Activities involve fishing [ although no luck ] kayaking to a spectacular waterfall, taking a rowboat to a hiking trail to the barracks and more. I would love to go there again when the weather is but more sunny but still we had an excellent time!

Glamping at it's finest. Everything is explained and safety is preeminent. Boat out and back is on time. Comfortable and clean yurts. Hot water, solar electric, spectacular views, fun equipment for free excursions and a gift shop to buy Susan's beautiful paintings of their Orca Island paradise.

Our stay at Orca Island Cabins was the highlight of our trip to Alaska. We planned to stay for one night and after staying in Seward before the cabins, we decided we were looking for a more remote experience and changed our reservation to stay for two nights. Seward was fine, but not what we were looking for in our Alaska trip.

Orca Island Cabins were incredibly beautiful, remote, comfortable and very clean. I haven't slept so well in quite some time. We were fortunate to have amazing weather late August with not a cloud in the sky. It was also incredibly liberating not having cell or wifi for those two nights as it was first time my husband and I had completely disconnected from the rest of the world in many years.

Yes, this is an expensive stay for a yurt. It was initially hard to justify since we have stayed in many hotels rated the best in the world by Travel & Leisure magazine for less than the cost of this yurt, and these hotels come with spas and restaurants, but let me tell you, our yurt was worth every penny and I would recommend staying here to anyone. Bringing food to the island really wasn't an issue as we brought super easy things to make for meals. If you look at the cost for the wildlife cruises out of Seward, these are not cheap either. We basically got our free wildlife cruise all day long while staying at the yurt. The yurts were an experience, not just a place to sleep at the end of the day. We saw whales, porpoise, eagles, river otters, bears (not on the island, when we kayaked elsewhere), and more.

I would recommend Orca Island Cabins to anyone, it was an incredible trip. I hope that we are fortunate enough to return one day for another relaxing stay.
