Description: ‘ULU Ocean Grill & Sushi Lounge is the breathtaking new oceanfront fish and seafood restaurant at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, where Executive Chef James Babian’s acclaimed “R.S.A. - Regional, Seasonal and Artisanal” cuisine is served in Hawaii’s most beautiful setting - alongside the surf and under the stars. The restaurant showcases a stylish blend of Hawaiian architecture and modern flair - a lively, informal setting where guests are inspired, surprised and delighted by the Hawaii’s beauty and the flavors of the Pacific, through an innovative menu with playful tableside presentation. Cuisine is prepared oven roasted, flame grilled and wok fired, while an extensive wine list, with a special selection of boutique wines is presented via iPad. The modern sushi lounge and ocean view bar feature the Island's freshest sushi, as well as craft cocktails, sake and Japanese beers. Casual, friendly and knowledgeable servers guide guests through a social dining experience not to be forgotten.

Ulu is the top restaurant at The Four Seasons Hualalai and likely the prettiest spot to dine at in all of Hawaii. We ate there twice during our most recent visit to the hotel. Both meals were good but neither was great. Part of that is the menu has become too heavily sushi and seafood oriented with few appetizing non seafood entrees. For the top restaurant at a resort like The Four Seasons, I would expect a more diverse menu (like was offered by the predecessor restaurant in this building). Service is fine and the food is good but ultimately I remain somewhat disappointed in Ulu as it should be great but it’s no where close to that level of dining. Perhaps it’s time for The Four Seasons to rotate at new head chef into Ulu who can rebalance the menu and drive it to a higher level dining experience.

Six of us went to Ulu’s last night for dinner. What we got was unbelievably superb food, with unparalleled service and a stunning view. Go early and sit at the bar. Some of us had martinis and some had black lava manhattans while sitting at the bar. We ordered ahi poke (put together table side so you can choose spices). Eating the perfect ahi while sipping our drinks and watching the sunset is an experience that can’t be replicated. We oo’d and aw’d and took way too many sunset pictures.

The service we got at the bar by Doug was so first class and finely tuned that we ate our entire meal right there watching the sun set, torches lit and the breaking waves lit up by lights.

We shared beet salads (locally grown) and then all had different fish dinners. Each dish caused us to moan with culinary ecstasy. Wine suggestion was perfect. We ended the evening sharing a butterscotch dish that was served with homemade pralines wrapped in chocolate and a whiskey shot that you could pour on top.

This was such a fantastic night. I’d give it 15 stars if I could. 5 for food, 5 for the service from Doug and every staff member we interacted with and 5 for the atmosphere.

The featured food is locally procured. Our abalone appetizer was superb. My little lobster tails were so tender and succulent. We watched a wonderful sunset from our table. The restaurant completed the meal with a complimentary, birthday, chocolate souffle.

We ate here once during our last stay in Hualalai but we prefer the simpler style of the Hualalai Grille. Each dish had an abundance of flavors if you are into that kind of thing. The bread was here was unusual and excellent tasting.

Directly across the walk from the beach. A great place to watch the sunset.

The breakfast raddish, to cleanse the plallet was surprising. No heavy taste.

The Hawai'i roll was our favorite. You couldn't deserne the shrimp in the shrimp roll and shrimp dumpling. Presentation was very good.

Wait staff service was slow even when told that we had a flight to catch. The bus boys were very attentive.

$$$
