“Wonderful stay at Royal Kona!”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

Stayed 4 nights Mar 1-5, 2012. Oceanfront room with the ocean waves hitting the rocks right below our room. Patio door was open every night to hear the waves in the night. Great view of city shops and restaurants slightly across the bay. There is adequate parking at the hotel and Don the Beachcomber restaurant. Staff is very friendly and helpful. No beach for swimming, but has a rather small pool. Easy walk to shops and restaurants. Would definitely recommend....and go back!

Room Tip: Ask for oceanfront. Great view!

This is probably the largest hotel we saw in Kona. It is close to a number of places to eat and drink, but the beach is on the other side of Kona close to the Marriott. If we came back, we would stay somewhere between the two.

Does have a restaurant in the hotel and also a great bar which overlooks the ocean.

An in house Expedia consultant is also there to assist you with bookings.

Room Tip: An "Ocean View" room is really a partial ocean view. To have a full view you have to book...

The overall feel of the hotel is it is aged and tired. There are rooms that are renovated but the majority are roomie but dated, with old carpet and feel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Don the Beachcomber resaurant was quite good their friday meal was similar to the outside luai but much more inexpensive.

Our stay at the Royal Kona (3/7/12 through 3/12/12) was great. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The employees were all very helpful with any questions we had. We loved the fact that there was so much to see and do within walking distance of the hotel. If we were to come back to Kona, we'd definitely stay at the Royal Kona again. Thanks to Heather at Berman Travel for putting our Hawaii trip together. Everything was flawless. We also stayed at the Royal Lahaina (sister hotel) for the second half of our trip and were more than happy there also. Great job.

We got a great deal on this hotel during Spring Break however if we had paid $100 or more we would have felt swindled.

We had two rooms booked, each with 2 double beds. The beds overall were comfortable enough. Carpet in the room was stained and worn. Sink faucets leaked in the bathroom and walls seemed paper thin. Service was a little slow from the staff. They give 2 very small towels so we requested more which took well over an hour and an additional phone call to the staff before someone showed up. Pool was COLD, so so cold and we never did find the salt water lagoon. Luckily Kona side has plenty of beaches but a jacuzzi open at night would've been nice.

There is a $10 parking fee which includes in and out privileges though the location of the hotel is ideal for exploring downtown Kona, with shops and restaurants an easy walk from the hotel.

Overall I'd only stay here again if we got that same deal of seventy-five bucks for the night.
