The hotel is in the centre of Hinterglemm midway between the two main lifts. The food was good at all times. However there is a problem with some rooms in the hotel. What is not mentioned on any website is that there is a music bar called Harleys which plays loud music until the early hours of the morning. This is not the apres ski bar which closes early evening. We unfortunately were given one of the rooms directly above this bar and were unable to sleep at all. After an argument with the receptionist who wouldn't help we asked to speak to the manager who solved the problem and moved us. Not a very good start to the holiday. We missed most of the first day of our skiing trip because we had to argue our case and then move our gear. The second room was fine but just a pity we had a bad experience. Really those rooms shouldn't be used unless at a much cheaper rate.

Room Tip: Never accept rooms 118,119,120 or 121 unless you can sleep through rock music

My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic week staying at this hotel. The staff could not do enough for you, it was clean and the food was fabulous. When you first walk in you get the impression that it is a little basic and not what you would expect of a four star hotel, it does not look plush. However, once you have settled in you realise how special it really is. We had friends staying in a nearby 'luxury' hotel and comparing notes we all decided that ours was best. Breakfast had everything, fruit, cereal, pastries, cold meats/cheese, hot selection and a chef with a hot plate cooking omelettes and eggs to order. Afternoon tea surpassed any afternoon tea elsewhere, offering different substantial hot and cold snacks each day. Dinner consisted of 6 courses which were fantastic everyday. We had planned to eat a la carte one day but did not believe we would get better. The spa area was lovely, although beware that the saunas are naked, this was not a problem for us as there was never anyone else there. The bottles of wine were a little expensive but by the glass and other drinks were reasonable. Thank you for our stay, we will return.

Room Tip: Don't worry about the loud bar below, the music ends at 8pm

The Dorfschmiede is in a perfect location between the two main lifts in Hinterglemm. Short walk and you have access to either side of the ski valley.
It is true four star hotel overshadowed only by its sister 5* hotel but this will cost you a lot more money.

We were a party of ten and the Dorfschmiede fulfilled all our needs.
Staff were really attentive in all areas, particularly in the restaurant. Reception were on the ball, professional, polite. Bar staff were equally welcoming.

The food was excellent with a full choice of warm and cold for breakfast. All in abundance as was the choice of tea and coffee.
Evening meal was of a standard I have not experienced on a Ski trip. Haute cuisine! Portion size not excessive but nonetheless never really felt hungary. Great salad bar!

The rooms were spotless and well equipped. Serviced daily to a high standard. If you are a light sleeper ask for non roadside room. Although not noisy, light sleepers may be affected. Beds were comfortable Austrian twins.

The Spa area was impressive with swimming pool, sauna, Turkish and lots of relaxation areas. Bath robes and slippers provided in the room with lots of towels etc in the pool area.

This is a great Hotel, in a great location, in a great resort.

I have only one criticism which refers to the accounting method of the restaurant bar. As previously stated we were a group of ten. Our wish was to put drinks/ extras on respective rooms. We were told this was not possible and all had to be put on one room. Imagine the nightmare of trying to recall who had what at the end of the week. Our overall restaurant bill was 1900 euros.

Room Tip: Non roadside rooms quieter.

Stayed here again this year and as usual the location and perfect Austrian ambience of the hotel delivered a lovely ski holiday with friends. Owner Heri Wolf putting his mark on the Dorfschmiede keeping all that is good about it and taking the hospitality to new levels.

I stayed at this hotel in Hinterglemm for 1 week. The rooms were very nice and cosy, much like a lodge design and the beds we're comfy. The facilities in the hotel were brilliant, with a beautiful swimming pool with a built in mini lazy river! The spa is nice with many uses like a plunge pool. On the negative side, some of the meals we were served were not for everyones liking and the options for vegetarians was a bit limited. All in all the hotel was perfect for the holiday we wanted and was in the perfect position for access to the slopes.
