Overall hotel is ok when you get a refurbished room. Bathroom could be bigger, very clean rooms and very nice Spa area: 2x Saunas, steam bath, relaxation area and a small swimming pool. Breakfast during low season really limited, on the other side during weekends - when they open big breakfast area - there is nothing to complain about as they offer great variety. Restaurants were closed.
Reason for low rating is the price/value and the fact that we were presented with a very unpleasant surprise at checkout: my partner staid for 9 nights, I joined for 4 nights. Instead of requesting a surcharge for additional room occupant, manager actually cancelled reservation for 4 nights and booked hotel standard rate for double room for this period. In effect, they requested 1,5 times the original rate!
Only after long discussion we agreed on paying double rate. Other hotel guests had similar issues during checkout (double room booked for 2 nights, for one night occupancy was 3, they were requested to pay 3 persons for 2 nights).

Hotel should quote immediately any additional cost before charging. Then, the rate is really high for what they offer. Be careful when you request changes to your booking.

We spent a week at the hotel with family and friends. Hotel services are just great, breakfast, reception team, dinner at the mexican and the tratoria, great spa after ski is a must and this hotel has got a nice spa with sauna, jacuzzi etc.. Definitely Highly recommended. We will be back next time we go to Saalbach.

We spend a week at Alpenhotel. We booked 8 months in advance and requested rooms with a connecting door or at least on the same floor. We were travelling with younger children and ended up getting rooms on three different floors

2 of the 3 rooms we had were very old and run down. They were at least clean though. Carpet and bathrooms had not been renovated since the 70ies and what we got was very different to the pictures advertised on booking.com

Most of the staff did not even understand basic German. Not even the manager on duty. Not what you would expect in Austria.

Service and friendliness was below average with exception of the staff at the bar.

The service in the restaurant trattoria was beyond believe. Rudest manager ever.

The Mexican restaurant had friendly service but the food was terrible. Overcooked, frozen low quality ingredients.

Definitely not 4 stars and most definitely not worth the money.

Though the hotel is traditional style, room facilities are out-of-date. You can easily find decent hotel rooms with traditional outlook along the road. The location is near the town entrance, so the road in front is busy (taxis come in and out). If you are a ski expert, you may enjoy its location that is near to black piste Schattberg. But average skiers like me need to walk uphill for the red and blue like Bernkogel.

The hotel itself is nice , but at the reception staff is not helpfull at all and unfriendly. I stay for business in hotels all over Europe, 200 nights a year at least. I never write a review, but this time it's necessary. If it depends on me I'll never stay here again. A minimum of politness is a must!!
