“Two days after mardi gras”

We arrived in New Orleans and stayed at the New Orleans Marriott, a great location on Canal St., close to the French quarter, some quality restaurants, and a main street car junction that could get you almost anywhere for $1.25. Check in was not smooth, as the room that we had been guaranteed was no longer available, leaving us the choice of an upgrade or to assume a room with handicap facilities, and we could overhear that this choice was being given to other travelers on either side of us as they checked in. We chose the upgrade, bringing the cost of the room to almost $300.00 per night. We were placed in the Riverside Tower with a pretty dull view of the Mississippi River. Rooms were small but clean, and the hotel has some age. The hotel staff was not the most pleasant or efficient, and several requests for directions or recommendations prompted curt answers or incorrect information. Concierge services were the biggest offenders in both cases. So, good location, do not expect too much else, plan on paying more than the hotel is worth, and enjoy your stay in a city that is just a shell of its former self.

I stayed here in late Feb 2012 for 3 days on a business trip. While the location of this hotel is quite good - close by to French Quarter and the Business District, the interior is quite dated and in bad need of renovation. My own room (rm. 1501) was quite small, with cramped desk tucked next to the entrance, broken chair (which they replaced after I asked), very small bathroom and outdated appliances (old phone w/o a speaker, limited outlets, etc.). At $193 not competitive with other alternatives nearby.

I stayed here the week before Madi Gras on a business trip.

To briefly summarise the main impression of the hotel:

The room was on 36th floor and was pretty well appointed with the usual Marriott decor and usual standards of cleanliness (which is to say, pretty clean), the only issue I had was a long wait for the lifts in the lobby since you need to program your floor and are assigned a lift letter (at first this seemed a good system but when there are more than a dozen people waiting for lifts, it quickly becomes tedious).

The facilities are typical for a city centre Marriott, a gym with several cardio vascular machines and a dumbell rack. A restaurant serving a reasonable menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, bar menu for those with less time, the bar area is extensive and covers most of the ground floor in front of the reception.
There is a concierge desk which was frequently busy and very useful for planning trips/transport.

In terms of locale, Burbon street is less than a 5 minute walk, the convention centre is a 20 minute walk though. If you are visiting for an exhibition, my advice would be to book the Hilton as it is closer. alternatively, there are 2 other Marriott propoerties within a mile of this one, both looked smaller and may offer a bit more of a personal touch.

The staff were very helpful and always pleased to offer assistance.

In conclusion, a reasonable Marriott property, but it could have been any other bransd hotel as it was nothing special in terms of decor, service, or facilities.

Room Tip: I had room 3615 (facing main Madi gras parade route)...it was still very noisy until around midnight...

There is certainly room for improvement in this property. Yes, the location is excellent and the staff is helpful and friendly. The lobby area is bright and clean. However, there were several problems. The sink drain was agonizingly slow. The bathroom door hit the ceiling (which was sagging) every time it was opened or closed. An empty tissue box was not replaced. The concierge breakfast is definitely not worth the upcharge offered. The standard room was dormitory small. Worth a stay for a value price. Otherwise we wouldnt return.

My friends and I wanted to ring in the new year in New Orleans. We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights. It was conveniently located to pretty much everything. We walked to the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, and Harrah's Casino. There were lots of shops and places to eat close by too. Our check in could have gone a little smoother, but once we were helped it all worked out. The rooms were average size, but the bathrooms were rather small. One of the perks in the hotel lobby would be the Starbucks. Overall we had a great stay and would definetly return.
