Description: Café Sbisa, established in 1899 and the third oldest fine-dining establishment in the French Quarter, is proud to re-open under the direction of a new team to once again offer the highest quality French-Creole cuisine in a welcoming, historical setting that both locals and tourists will appreciate. Spearheading the new Café Sbisa are Mr. Craig Napoli, who successfully ran the notable restaurant from 1992 - 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city, and Chef Alfred Singleton, who met Craig when he started working for him at the former Café Sbisa as a prep cook. Now, the unique venue will once again open its doors to serve classic local fare like Turtle Soup, Louisiana Blue Crab Cakes and BBQ Shrimp using the freshest, locally-sourced seafood and produce. While many restaurants tout “fresh and local”, Sbisa means it, as the Napoli family owns their own seafood dock and distribution business in Hopedale, Louisiana. The Sbisa team has been diligently working to renovate the notorious building directly across the street from the French Market while ensuring its old-world charm is maintained, including a hand-carved mahogany bar dating back to 1903. Patrons will still be able to view famous artist and one-time Sbisa regular George Dureau’s painting above the bar; the mural of French Quarterites including Sbisa employees, regulars and Dureau himself has shined for decades and will continue to be an artistic centerpiece. We look forward to meeting you during dinner or weekend brunch and are confident you'll walk away feeling pleasantly satisfied, having just had one of your most memorable dining experiences inside our four walls.

My wife's boss had heard about this place and made us reservations for dinner. Glad he did as we finished our trip off with an excellent meal! Excellent service seating my wife first and placing her napkin in her lap. We had a nice white wine to go along with our meal, which was started off with a gumbo that my wife and I were going to split. The server heard us say that and as they delivered TWO cups to us we commented we only ordered one, but as she overheard us they took the one bowl and split it into two for us. Very nice! We all got something different from the fresh fish special to a filet to my courtbouillon...everything was delightful! Look forward to another trip here!

We had reservations but arrived early. They accommodated us right away. We sat on the outside balcony overlooking the street, very pleasant evening. Service was somewhat disjointed--suspect we had a new server because bus person and another server filled the gaps--but accurate. For example, we received our first course before the drinks or bread arrived. The food was fresh and tasty, and the serving size was good. There was live music downstairs, which we could also enjoy from the balcony.

Food was excellent. However, service was strange. Took about 15 minutes for drink order to appear. Meanwhile, appetizers had already been served. Then came the entrees. As we were finishing up, bread was served - without butter or oil. Hope they improve this part of the dining experience as the food would bring us back.

My wife and I are definitely NOLA regulars. Ever since our first few times to the MOST AMAZING CITY IN THE WORLD we have mostly eaten outside of the French Quarter, hoping to avoid the tourists and find some REALLY local spots. But the story behind this quaint FQ restaurant made me want to go (if you don't know the story...a former busboy, turned head chef, is now co-owner of this place and was the driving force behind opening in after Hurricane Katrina). Anyway, the restaurant was a little quiet the night we arrived for dinner, but that allowed the chef to come out and chat with us a bit, so all in all that was a bonus too. Everything we ate was great but the star was the incredibly rich gumbo. IT WAS SO GOOD!! There must have been some bits of debris (a NOLA staple) in the dish because it was so dark and rich, and flavorful. I would almost fly back to New Orleans just for this gumbo!

Wonderful brunch place. Define will visit again! Live jazz music was really good. Recommend dishes: grits, endless mimosa ($15). Turtle soup here is the best I have ever had.
