This is a beautiful place with great sculptures. Kids will enjoy it as well because they can touch them. Very lovely park.
I don't get the art here and I'm sure that's my loss or a sign of my own ignorance but most of it seems oddly inspired and/or too strange to appreciate. There's one of a mom holding a kid and standing on a kid. I don't get it.
That said, the art space itself is amazing. Quiet, lots of trees and flowers, water, etc. It's a really fantastic and well planed out space. There are spaces right by the water, bridges, lots of benches. It's a very peaceful space and honestly, I found myself mostly ignoring the sculptures and just enjoying the path.
There's a Cafe DuMonde outside one of the entrances that was surprisingly busy. Lots of parking though mostly street parking.
I would recommend. The more cultured will find something in the sculptures. The troglodytes like me can at least appreciate the landscape.
My husband is a landscape photographer, so we always try to check out parks. We were so impressed by the collection of sculptures found in this Sculpture Garden, easily the equivalent of the art near the Smithsonian in DC
Such a beautifully designed and curated sculpture garden! This is perfect for dates, fun with friends, or any occasion and it's in City Park with so much to explore / do including mini golfing, biking, kayaking. And that doesn't even mention that it's free! For good food nearby (within walking distance), there's Bevi Seafood Company and Blue Oak BBQ.
Yes Yes Yes get out of French Quarter to see unique masterpieces in this garden. Just a beautiful setting nestled in centuries old oak trees. Also you can visit the NOLA Art museum. There is also Cafe Du Monde on this site so you can skip the lines at French Quarter. Absolutely a breath of fresh air!
