“Great location, sloppy housekeeping”
Reviewed 29 November 2008

My wife and I stayed at this timeshare for a week after booking it through RCI. The unit was described as a 1-bedroom with a full kitchen. The kitchen does have a traditional refrigerator, microwave and toaster, but no stove or burners.

The good: Great location just off of Canal Street, which borders the French Quarter and is a couple blocks from the river. It also has easy access to all the current cable car routes and city buses. The area felt reasonable safe and well lit, plus the location so close to very busy Canal Street was comforting when on foot.
The hotel was recently built in an old printing factory so you can count on fresh paint and carpet, and everything should be working.
The staff working in the garage/bellhops were friendly, looked out for the patrons and were very helpful. You tend to interact a lot because it is faster to head to Canal street through the garage as opposed to the front door.

The bad: Sloppy housekeeping - trash left behind end tables, hair stuck to shower walls and very sticky counters in the kitchenette.
Thin walls - a neighbor complained because even though the sound wasn't very loud, the woofer for the DVDs was vibrating the walls on her side. You could nearly make out neighboring units conversations.
Very business unfriendly - the $6 a day wi-fi Internet was stunningly slow (a speed test showed it runs at 8% of average speed) and phone messages can be irretrievable. A message left at noon on Nov. 25 could not be accessed until Nov. 27 despite the flashing light and calls to the front desk.

My husband and I along with another couple stayed at this resort on an RCI week exchange. The place has been recently remodeled and opened in Aug. 2008. If you are a frequent timeshare user, this place may not be what you are used to. There are virtually no planned activities offered and the amenities are few. There is an outdoor, not heated wading pool without places to sit, a hot tub which was closed for tile repairs- seemed odd since the place was only open for two months- and an exercise room/sauna which was nice and well equipped, but I never saw anyone using it.

There was an area offering morning coffee which was really anemic on the second floor. My advice is to go out the back door, cross the side street and enter the Sheraton where there is a Starbucks for java or make your own in room. They also had complimentary newpaper.

The units were spacious, but not well utilized in terms of that space. The TV's and seating areas were very far from each other and the sofa bed was not suitable for sleeping- the matress had to be placed on the floor. The king bed in the MBR was very comfortable. The door to the unit stuck and the handle to the shower came off several times the toilet paper holder was behind the person who needed it and difficult to reach. There was no ice maker in the fridge, but there was a machine in the hallway. The ceilings were very high. This created an echo in uncarpeted areas like the bathroom, so any sound in their could be heard throughout the unit- really loud in the middle of hte night or early morning. And the window coverings plush and kept the unit very dark well after sunrise- good for sleeping in. The view from our unit was restricted by other buildings- not impressive. They had a good starter pack of paper products.

Now for the good- LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. The building is 1 block from Harrahs, 2 blocks from the French Quarter, and 1 block from the St. Charles streetcar stop. The staff was friendly though not really as knowledgeable about the area as they need to be. One valet/bellhop was able to guide to a place to buy a streetcar ticket and get area info.

We basically knew our way around, and people who come to NOLA rarely need a lot of resort organized activity so the place met our needs. I wish the bed had been more comfortable for our guests though- and get better coffee!

The building is a "brand new", 200 year old building. That's the way things happen in the downtown area of New Orleans. As is the case with all of NO, the area is decidedly Jekyll and Hyde. This is not a bad thing, just the way it is. It's a perfect location, just off Canal, The French Quarter, Harrah's and the "interesting" Magazine St. Check-in was uncrowded and handled easily. The front desk staff, guest services, baggage and parking staff could not have been nicer.

Everything is just about brand new and no expense was spared. I had a studio villa that was pretty large. With the very comfortable Murphy Bed up, it had a lot of "wasted " space. But understandable. A very nice sofa bed and full dining table for 4. A hi def (once you find the channels) 32" plasma TV. A full fridge, state of the art convection microwave, toaster, coffee maker, high quality cutlery and china. You would be hard pressed to prepare a meal, but in New Orleans, that is NOT a problem. We did a few reheats of fabulous leftovers, and did some eggs and muffins a few mornings. Hot water was never a problem.

The common areas were very nice, cute courtyard with small wadding pool, hot tub, full blown exercise room. The computer room had some desktop problems, and wi fi in the room was $29.95 for the week. The open air wadding fountain area was NO SMOKING, as was every area of the building. there was also a small courtyard with morning coffee on the 2nd floor.

I got a look at a Presidential 1 Bd and it was gorgeous. Hardwood floors, upscale furniture, two flat screen hi def TVs, full kitchen, high quality china and cutlery, chandeliers, beautiful crystal light covers. Unless you're idea of an OK hotel is the Four Seasons, it should knock your socks!!

The staff, to a person, and almost everyone you meet in NO, is ready with a smile and hello. If there are any glitches, its strictly because of newness and not lack of trying.

Enjoy your stay and bring your most comfortable walking shoes!!
