Rode the St. Charles streetcars from the French Quarter through the beautiful Garden District of Bee Orleans.... then a great breakfast at The Camellia Grill (the best!) and then back around!! Tip: get the day pass and use as often as you want!
For an unbelievable $0.40 per trip (transfers are free and good for up to 2 hours from time of issue) the seniors rate for riding the RTA is the best bargain for tourists visiting New Orleans. I rode the streetcars and buses all over the city and in two weeks here I was only asked to show proof of age once, so have it ready. A passport is suggested on the RTA website but not required: Anything with D.O.B. on it is good. The streetcars are CLEAN and move slowly, so an excellent way to see the sights.
The streetcars seem to be more dependable and prompt than the buses, and hopefully break down less frequently, but it must be known that the R in RTA does NOT stand for RAPID.
$3.00 let's you ride all day(24 hours). Ride the green one one day and do the red the next. Passes will work on both. You MUST have exact change. We were on the trolly with a culinary student who was trying to give slices of cake away to any passenger who wanted a slice. It was her class project that day. Good day for us.
we rode them from South Carrolton Avenue right down to Bourbon Street. Really impressed with the drivers attention to all customers and they travel at a nice leisurely pace
Bought a pass for the RTA, which included the street cars. A bargain, for sure! The drivers were friendly and vigilant, as cars would cut right in front of them.
We loved the street car that ran up and down St. Charles. Make sure to have exact change to hop on a streetcar. It is $1.25 for one ride but the 24 hour pass for $3 is well worth it! You can jump on and off anywhere on the route and we never had to wait too long for one to come by. You can stop for lunch at Streetcar Po Boys, jump off near the Lafayette cemetery and walk down to Magazine St. for coffee and shopping or head all the way to beautiful Audubon Park and enjoy the beautiful houses and scenery along the way. Don’t miss it!
