Our family visited on a gray day with passing showers. We were clearly informed before purchasing tickets that the zoo stays open in the rain and there were no refunds due to weather.
Our kids favorite exhibits were the Mayan jungle area and the Swamp. The Swamp is meant to convey a backwoods Louisiana swamp and had a variety animals or kids enjoyed watching, including alligators, cougars, bears, fish, snakes and small tanks of crawfish, frogs, and turtles.
A word of warning for families with kids who scare easily...the swamp monster (a mannequin) is in a covered, indoor area near some fish tanks and it was a little scary for our young ones.
Some areas were under construction, like part of the Jaguar Jungle and a new building for nocturnal animals, and or visit was so much fun that we'd like to return to see these when they're ready. A few paths that connected different areas needed some pruning or cleanup of downed foliage but we knew that recent weather had damaged some trees. We still really enjoyed our visit because of the variety of animals and expansive layout of this zoo.
